POWER OF THOUGHTS (by “KHOJI, BAUJI JASWANT SINGH).

 POWER OF THOUGHTS

I

Life is motion, consciousness in motion; and motion effecting all matter is ‘vibration’. In the beginning, it was all consciousness. Consciousness emanated vibration called the ‘Word’ or ‘Sound’, i.e., ‘Shabad’, which projected the entire cosmic world. This ‘vibration’ is the first projection of Primal Energy or Infinite- Power, from which infinite types of vibrations sprouted, fructifying into numerous types and forms of matter.

Matter is thus nothing but an expression of energy. In other words, existence of varied forms of matter is directly attributed to the process of combination and permutation of infinite variety of vibrations. Different ranges of vibrations existing in this universe are named as light, heat, electricity, sound, etc.; all are modes of vibrations of the same nature in ether, though they differ in frequency and quality.

Thoughts, desires, actions, etc., are also made up of vibrations, but differ in their phenomena because of different character, frequency and intensity. Every thing in the universe, whether living or non-living, having

been created by certain types of vibrations, also emits the same type of vibrations in the cosmos. So also, thoughts caused by certain type of vibrations emit the same kind of vibrations in the cosmos, which are recorded by the cosmic infinitude. In other words, the cosmic apparatus constantly registers and emits all types of vibrations affecting everything in the universe.

Human soul is an integral part of the ‘Prime Soul’ or the Supreme Consciousness, in very much the same way as a ray of light belongs to its source — ‘the Sun’. The two differ only in degree (power), but in essence (quality) they are the same.

Of all other living forms in the universe, human form is the most highly evolved being, as it has the exquisite faculty of discrimination, called ‘intellect’. For this quality, man is said to have been created by God ‘in His Own image’. Thus, human form is the cream of cosmic creation.

Human mind is endowed with the discriminating power of intelligence. Mind is nothing but a subtle phenomenon of thinking. It operates through thoughts; if thoughts do not exist mind loses its identity.

Because of its multifarious assignments, such as ambition, emotion, sentiments, feeling, instinct, inclination, imagination, volition, etc., the mind has acquired its mercurial nature.

Acting in collusion with the sense organs, the mind rouses the five nerve-centres in the ‘Consciousness’,

2

and they in turn, propel the executing organs to activity. They are :

lust

anger

greed

attachment

ego,

which affect the intellect, distort its power of judgement and discrimination, and drive the man to act as a ‘slave’ to ‘mind’. It is, therefore, essential for the man to tame the mind and harness the power of thoughts.

Mind can be compared to the ocean. Just as wind causes ripples on the surface of water, so are thought-waves caused on the surface of the mind. Certain strong waves of thought dive deep into the sub-conscious mind; they are like the under- currents at the sea-bed.

Mind is never calm and vacant. Rumbling waves of desires, ego, ambition, craving, anxiety of possession, attachment, etc., always disturb its equipoise. Although intellect is superior to ‘mind’ because of its power of judgement and discrimination, yet the man is easily amenable to the fascination of sensual gratification. Thus, ‘intellect’ plays a puppet in the hands of the mind.

Mind is the link between the ‘sense world’ and the ‘Soul Realm’. Mind operates through thought, which is a subtle, vital, living force; capable of acquiring infinite power.

Thought is a subtle wave or vibration emanating from the mind. In other words, vibrations out flowing from the mind are called ‘thoughts’. There are infinite type of vibrations of love, hatred, envy, jealousy, anger, sensuality, etc., in the cosmos. Depending on the ‘principle of like attracts like’, we attract certain types of vibrations from the cosmos according to our ‘Instinct’ of previous and present life. Consequently, these vibrations are potentised by frequent repetition. In this way, we in turn generate and transmit these vibrations in the cosmos.

Everything there in the universe in the material form (seen) had its origin first in thought (unseen). What we speak is a mere expression of thought. Poetry, a great writing, a fine piece of art, or a science and engineering marvel are all the results of thought.

Thought is, in fact, the primal force of the genesis at the back of all creation. The present universe is the cumulative result of our collective thoughts and feelings. The universe, in reality, is the projection of our mind,

4

which in itself is the store-house or computer of our acquired impressions, which are expressing themselves in impulses and thoughts.

Every thought has a mental image, hue, form, dimension, etc. It is the :

genesis of past thoughts and actions,

vehicle of the present life, and

seed of future propensity,

affecting life individually and collectively, and transforming the physical and mental world continuously and imperceptibly.

Thoughts travel far and wide in all directions at a lightning speed, carrying subtle notes, which are registered in the cosmic records. Powerful thought- vibrations travel at a tremendous velocity and are received through mental antennas of those who are receptive to such vibrations on the same frequency.

Thoughts when focussed and directed, become

dynamic forces and produce deep impressions.

You can well imagine the ‘intensity of sun-rays’ when they are concentrated through a magnifying glass (double- convex lens) on to a peice of paper.

Every one is living in one's own world of thoughts, continuously absorbing or repelling the vibrations of other thoughts recorded in the ether, according to the particular wave-length and frequency.

5

Every thought is a link in the endless chain of cause and effect to produce :

desire thought activity

— stimulating drive;

— manifesting in action, and

— weaving the web of character, fate and destiny.

Pure thoughts are Divine forces which pervade human existence right from the birth. They radiate joy, hope, solace and peace to the entire humanity.

Persistent thoughts of egoistic desire, selfishness, and covetousness breed, develop and nourish anger, hatred, jealousy, revenge and the like, which give rise to malicious tendencies leading to heinous actions. On the other hand, noble thoughts of love, compassion, kindness, etc., produce, noble men and saints.

Power of thoughts lies latent in us, and can be developed to make or mar our own life and destiny. We are continuously attracting to ourselves forces and conditions most akin to those of our own thoughts. Our particular thought within connects us with a similar thought from without. It is, therefore, important for us to recognize as to how do we live in our thought- world.

Our thoughts instantly reflect on our face and features. They chasten, chisel and fashion our countenance, which is an index of our inner character. The facial expressions expose the true state and substance of our mind, howsoever we may try to hide it.

6

Our face and eyes are :

sensitive registering apparatus, faithful reflectors,

clear mirrors, and

true expressions

of our inner feelings.

Every thought produces a strong vibration in every cell of our body, and leaves a deep impression on our sub-conscious mind. Impressions from the depth of the subconscious mind come up in the form of thought- vibrations or mental images, and direct our actions accordingly. Therefore, we are the makers of our own habits, circumstances, character and fate. These thought-vibrations are transmuted to every fibre and nerve of our physical body, and cause electrical, chemical and biological changes, affecting our physical and mental condition.

Every good and sublime thought conjures a noble spirit and initiates good action, contributing to our health and happiness. This also has an invigorating effect in improving our physical and mental condition, even during moments of depression and exhaustion.

On the contrary, every depressing and negative thought has an adverse effect on every cell of our body, causing physical and mental exhaustion. Most of the present-day diseases such as hypertension, joint-pains, stomach ulcer, insomnia, spondilosis, chronic indigestion, heart-ailments and many other diseases,

7

have their origin in psyche, i.e., habitual negative thinking, which cause substantial abnormality in different body-tissues. It, therefore, accrues that mere mode of thinking can create heaven or hell for life.

It implies, therefore, that thoughts having tremendous force, can :

execute desires and passions,

fashion our countenance,

develop our character,

work out circumstances,

influence and transform our behaviour,

shape our destiny, and

contribute towards shaping the universe.

The force of thought, thus, works :

systematically, subtly,

imperceptibly, consistently, and

dynamically.

We have a free will to choose between : virtue and vice,

friends and foes,

good and bad,

happiness and sorrow,

health and disease, and

heaven and hell.

8

All these conditions are the outcome of our own thoughts and deeds, and are subject to our discretion.

We have the free choice of thought, feelings and actions. So, it is upto us alone to discriminate, decide and work for a better and sublimer life. Our thoughts make us what we are here and hereafter.

Happiness or misery is, therefore, the result of our own thoughts and actions.

Poverty, misery or misfortune, may, in fact, prove a blessing in disguise, as, through higher and constructive thoughts, one may develop humility, endurance, faith, etc. Conversely, affluence and luxury may breed inertia, passion, arrogance, faithlessness and resultant vices.

The present state of our lives has been shaped by our own thoughts, and if we desire to change it for the better, we have to discriminate wisely and choose the higher and sublimer course of thoughts.

In the world of today, most people believe in Epicurean philosophy, i.e., ‘eat, drink and be merry’. This is a devilish idea and leads to sorrow and miseries. We should ‘eat-to-live’ and not ‘live-to-eat’.

III

Our thoughts are dissipated in many directions and in order to cultivate and develop their power, they have to be focussed to a single point.

With purity, concentration and meditation, thoughts can develop tremendous mental power and strong will. Only calm, serene, cheerful and pure mind, with faith and devotion can concentrate and meditate.

Higher and spiritual thoughts, sustained by persistent meditation, can intuitively ‘tap’ or ignite our latent soul, and we can partake and enjoy peace, joy, bliss and love of the Divine Realm.

There is no physical or mental limitation of time and space in the process of spiritual working. The spirit transcends all limitations and pervades and engulfs the Universe at a lightening speed.

For the development of power of pure and sublime thoughts, it is essential to resist and avoid all lower obnoxious thoughts and impulses of worry, fear, anger, envy, sensuality, etc., which disturb and distract the mind. These obnoxious thoughts are the root cause

10

of all our worries and mental tensions. The impure negative thoughts should not be entertained; they gain strength by repetition. They should be nipped in the bud by ignoring and avoiding them as soon as they appear. Even unimportant, useless and irrelevant thoughts should be avoided, as they rob us of our peace of mind and contribute toward mental tension. They should not be allowed to take roots. They should be replaced by kind, loving, devotional and inspiring thoughts and memories.

Mind assumes a teeming variety of modifications. Mere understanding of the illusoriness of such modifications will not help; you have to develop the power to negate them, Let the modifications arise, but do not get yourself involved in them. In the beginning, controlling the thoughts of passions appears formidable and impossible. Never try to suppress your thoughts. Suppressed thoughts are more dangerous. They get stored in the sub-conscious mind in the form of seeds. Whenever the conscious control is weakened, they manifest themselves with a bang. Therefore, the negative desires should be substituted with positive ones, or sublimated by analytical reasoning and non- cooperation with them. Light dispels darkness. Likewise, every higher sublime thought is a ray of light, which clears the dark clouds of evil thoughts.

Feelings and motives behind our thoughts and actions are very important and decisive. They should

11

be :

Pure,

sublime, and

constructive.

Lower, impure feelings and impulses are to be :

avoided, repelled,

transmuted, sublimated, and

spiritualised.

But it is an uphill task as our mind easily flows into the old grooves of lower vicious thoughts. By its very nature, the mind always goes for material things and worldly pleasures; but is never contented. Although it recognizes the consequences of all its doings yet it cannot resist the temptations. Conquest of the mind is more difficult than the conquest of the world.

The only way it can be tamed and subdued is by a superior, higher, and nobler love than the love for worldly allurements. This superior love is in the taste of Nam or Shabad — the ‘Wordless Word’, realized through meditation in the sublime company of Word- personified, Enlightened Masters. This love is so sweet, transcendent, and captivating that mind automatically loses its wavering nature and is made completely calm. Otherwise a bad master, it then becomes an excellent servant.

12

Regular spiritual meditation is the fire in which the obnoxious thoughts and impulses can be burnt, and is the quickest and best way of cultivating mental peace and poise, and of preventing mental tension, which is the real killer of ‘self’.

In the process of weaning the mind away from vicious thoughts of external objects, and fixing it on Divinity, ‘Simran’ (repetition of God's name) is very effective. Meditation is a dynamic spiritual force to antidote and counter-act the negative vicious thoughts of hatred, lust, anger, greed and pride, and to substitute them with positive and virtuous thoughts of humility, purity, kindness and love. When meditation becomes regular and devotional, our mind becomes more potent and strong to resist the temptation of lower destructive vicious thoughts.

Gradually and imperceptibly, the spiritual effect of meditation will transform and sublimate our thoughts which will spontaneously reflect on our countenance, environment, dealings, habits, character and fate. Thus, new, nobler and spiritual grooves and avenues will be formed in our mind which will slowly, but surely, prepare us for the attainment of ‘God-head’, i.e., Consciousness of Divine Existence, Divine Love, Happiness and Bliss.

God resides in our hearts, and the only way to worship Him is by cultivating sublime thoughts and meditating on His Name. With regular practice of meditation, thought-waves subside and in that perfect stillness of mind, the self-effulgent soul shines forth.

HHHHH

13

IV

For the practice of concentration and meditation :

silence, solitude,

regularity, guidance, and

company of

the awakened and illuminated souls is very essential. It must be realized that thoughts are the means of

externalisation and objectification of the Universe. Thoughts activate and express themselves in us through ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’. When our thoughts are spiritualised by meditation, ego consciousness is transmuted into Divine Consciousness, and our mind works in tune with, and as an instrument of, the Divine Will.

Determination and persistent striving is needed to build up the desired character, which is the deciding factor to resolve all issues and problems of life -good or bad- and make or mar life.

The circumstances, environment and fate are the materialisation of our own thoughts, and we have no right to put the onus of our miseries on others. Peace and prosperity can be ensured for the entire humanity only by generating a new thought-force.

14

Propagation of teachings and philosophies of Saints and ‘God-men’ will go a long way towards the creation of sublime world of grace. One should also cultivate the habit of reading the literature and writings of holy men to purify one's thoughts.

Thoughts are the cause or seeds of all our physical actions, emotions and impulses. So, if we want to change our life, character and fate, we have to strike at the very root and transform our thoughts for the betterment, through :

— sublimation of our consciousness,

— faith in God,

— meditation on His Name,

— company of Enlightened Souls, and

— Grace of the Guru.

In this way, our own life, as well as the civilization of the world, can be sublimated and ushered into the Divine Realm.

V

Thoughts have no power in themselves. They merely act as carriers or channels of power.

All power belongs to God. There is no other power.

The universe derives all kinds of powers from the source of Divinity.

The Divine Power is infinite, all-engulfing, all- pervading and self-effulgent, and is projected and manifested in the universe in various reflections. Every particle of the cosmos possesses this heritage of Divine Power in full and profound measure.

Thick and coloured curtains inhibit and diminish the power of light. Similarly, the intensity of thought- power is diminished when it passes through coloured or polluted mind.

Divine Power is dissipated in the process of external flow through mind's diversification. This means, when sensitive thought-vibrations pass through the various channels of the mind, viz. lust, ego, anger, greed,

16

attachment, etc., they get frittered and weakened, thereby losing their intensity and power.

The subtle soul-vibrations are originally pure and sublime, but during their outward transition, they are subjected to our mental conditions, and thereby get influenced, polluted, and weakened.

Limitation of power is thus mainly due to our depraved ideas and conceptions which modify, depreciate, diminish, restrain and obstruct the flow of the Infinite Divine Power.

The supply of Divine Power into our mind is contingent to, and limited by, the condition of our belief and faith in Divinity. Faithlessness of our materialistic mind is an obstruction to the inflow of Divine Power, i.e., misguided and ill-conceived thinking limits the flow of Divine Power into our mind and body.

Realisation of God's gift of Infinite Power is directly proportional to the intensity of our ‘belief and faith’ in His Divine Power, and only in that proportion we partake and enjoy the profound benefit and bliss of His Infinite Divine Power, inherent in our souls. Consequently, we also limit the outflow of Divine Power, Bliss and Love, through our mind-channel, for the benefit of mankind. In fact, when thoughts and conceptions are sublimated in our consciousness, we become in tune with the Universal Will, and the Infinite Divine Power begins to flow through us to the universe and we become channels of the profound Divine Power.

17

Since the onus of all the experiences on the physical and cosmic planes lies in our own thinking, conceptions, beliefs and faith, intuitional spiritual discrimination is very important and essential. This spiritual discriminating power can be acquired only in the company of lIluminated Souls, i.e., through Divine vibrations emanating from such Souls.

Extremely sensitive spiritual vibrations originate and emanate from Divinity which are pure and dynamic. But, as they transit through our polluted mids, their power and purity is diminished in the process of externalization. Hence, the more our thoughts are scattered, contaminated and depraved, the weaker they become. On the other hand, the more our thoughts are purified, sublimated and spiritualised by concentration and meditation, the more they retain their original, inherent, spiritual dynamism.

Ever thought that passes through our mind leaves an indelible trace amongst the millions of cells of our brain. So whatever we do, makes it easier for us to do the same thing over again. This is because electric currents record all that happens to us by creating path-ways or impressions among the cells of our brain. The more frequently the same thoughts and actions are repeated, the deeper and more pronounced the impressions become.

These impressions are unconsciously and constantly accumulating in our Mental Computer and they affect and shape our ideas, conceptions, beliefs, and faith;

18

their sum-total is manifested in our behaviour, habits, character and personality.

Ninety percent of our personality is made up of, and represents our inner mental, emotional and spiritual qualities; only ten per cent of it can be attributed to the outer environment. These influences are acquired through our mental inclinations and experiences both during the present and past many lives.

Every smallest stroke of virtue or vice leaves behind an ever-so-little scar on our mind – good or bad – never to be undone. This scar or influence is so powerfully embedded in the sub-conscious mind that it is wholly carried forward through lives, birth after birth, and shapes man's destiny to prove the Karmic Law of ‘As

you sow, so shall you reap’.

The drunkard excuses himself for every fresh dereliction by saying: ‘I won't count it this time.’ Well, he may not count it, but it is being counted non-the- less in his Mental Computer, deep down into his nerve-cells and fibres, molecules and electrons in his subtle consciousness, registering and storing it up in its subtle folds, to be used against him when the next temptation arises in his mind.

Man is incessantly weaving a good or bad ‘cone’ around himself, by his own thoughts and actions, like a silk worm; thus shaping his own fate and destiny.

Thoughts have tremendous power which can be developed to unlimited degree by repetition, contemplation, concentration and meditation.

19

Lower, depraved thoughts should be forgotten or brushed aside at once, as soon as they come, by diverting the mind to higher, nobler and inspiring thoughts.

“As you sow, so shall you reap.”

“Sow a thought, reap an idea;

sow an idea, reap an action;

sow an action, reap a habit;

sow a habit, reap a character;

sow a character, reap a fate;

sow a fate, reap a destiny.”

Human mind is unconsciously and incessantly weaving and shaping its own good or bad world within, by its own thoughts. Similarly, every thought -

good or bad - that emanates from the mind sends subtle vibrations all over the universe, which are registered in the Infinite Perfect Universal Computer of Consciousness..

HHHHH

20

VI

Millions of thoughts, emanating every moment from the minds of the entire Universe, are being registered and processed instantly by the Universal Computer and shelved into like cycles and wave lengths. The cycles and wave lengths of various hues and categories, and subtle vibrations thereof, accumulate and shape the subtle environment of the Universal Mind just as in the case of our individual mind and sub- consciousness.

In this subtle process, our thoughts have profound influence in:

— directly shaping our character, fate and destiny;

— indirectly moulding and modifying the subtle environment of the universe, and

— re-coiling on the whole humanity, collectively.

In fact, every thought is a dynamic seed which sprouts, gains strength by repetition, spreads in the mental world and engulfs the entire universe to make or mar our lives, according to the nature of our thoughts.

21

This explains the tense and vicious environment of selfishness, pride, unrest, strife, jealousy, cruelty and wars prevailing all over the world, inspite of numerous professed religions and cults, and all efforts of august institutions, like U.N.O., etc.

God created a Heaven for his children to live in and enjoy, but we, the prodigal sons of the Earth, have turned it into a hell like vicious rendezvous under the influence of our lower, depraved thoughts, and have thereby degenerated moral values.

The cultivated dynamic thoughts are so powerful that they are capable of modifying the cumulative result of our past and present lives. They are so insidious and permeating that they definitely have profound effect on our future as well.

The sound of a particular frequency and wave- length is caught and relayed by any radio set which is tuned to that frequency and wave-length.

Similarly, thought-vibrations of different intensity, frequency and wave-length can be caught, perceived and conceived by any mind or minds which are tuned to that frequency and wave-length, may be anywhere in the vast limitless cosmos.

This means that the cumulative results of our good and bad thoughts are registered in the universal computer, caught and conceived by any mind-radio, whenever and wherever it is, provided it is tuned to the frequency and wave-length of the orginating thought.

22

In other words, the waves or vibrations of a particular thought simultaneously pass through every mind radio which is tuned to that wave-length.

This explains why drunkards and villains, or noble and pious people, get attracted towards each other to prove the idiom : “Birds of the same feather flock together”. Our audio-visual process of electronic science works on the same principle.

This principle of attraction and communication at the same wave-length is working invisibly and imperceptibly throughout the universe, even beyond the limits of death and subtly affects our mind process and shapes our environment and relationship in the next lives. The kind of environment and relationship, good or bad, that we wish for in our next life, can be decided and shaped in the present life itself, through our thought-process, by merely transforming our ideas and thoughts to higher and nobler wave-length, with contemplation and meditation on sublime and inspiring thoughts, with intensity of feelings and faith in the Divine compassion and Love.

This Eternal Universal Law : “As you think, so you become”, is illustrated by the following story published some years ago.

“There was an old lady who had suffered numerous misfortunes and miseries in her life and was overwhelmed with frustration, indignation, anger, hatred and sadness. Her life became devoid of happiness, hope, brightness and goodness.

23

She became irritable, quarrelsome and furious. Gradually, her vicious temperament adversely affected her health and reflected on the features of her face which looked ugly, haggard, abhorrent and repulsive. In due course, all her relatives and friends deserted her and she was left all alone to lead a dry, dreary and miserable life. The people around her avoided her repulsive company and children would run away to hide from the sight of her ugly dreadful countenance.

A noble soul took compassion on the wretched condition of this old miserable lady and approached her with kindness and sympathy. She asked her to recollect the brightest and happiest occasion of her life. The old lady at once brought her wedding photo and started narrating the happy and blissful events of her marriage. As she did so, luster came back in her sad eyes and the features of her old wrinkled face became blooming and attractive. The good lady took her to the mirror and told her to carefully observe and mark the difference between her own features before and after the interview. The old lady was astonished at her own bright eyes and glowing face in spite of her wrinkled skin. Actually, she was frightened to compare her new features with her usual miserable repulsive countenance.

The crucial point in this story is the sudden change in her countenance wrought by the sweet and blissful memory of a bright and happy occasion of her life. It was the direct and immediate result of the change in her thoughts.

24

She was advised to replace her usual depraved thoughts with higher and nobler thoughts and contemplate frequently on the brighter side of life, with thankfulness for the blessings of the Lord, as often as possible.

By and by, her features changed for the better and luster of her eyes returned, and her behaviour became reasonable and endearing. Her repulsive countenance became attractive and lovely. Her neighbours and friends again flocked to her to sympathise and cheer her up, the fearful children came running to her and enjoyed her newly sprouted affection and kindness.

Ultimately, she died as a ‘Loving Noble old lady’ instead of that ‘repulsive, witch-like old lady’, thus ensuring herself, endearing, kind and loving life in the here-after.

The magic that wrought such an unbelieveable and wonderful miracle to the hopeless, despondent and wretched life of the old lady, is Eternal Universal Law :

As you think, so you become.

The power of thinking is attributed to the degree of one's faith. Every aspect of our life revolves around the axle of thoughts in respect of our belief and faith being :

good or bad,

noble or depraved,

25

and hinges on —

kindness or cruelty,

compassion or selfishness,

love or hatred,

happiness or sadness,

health or sickness,

prosperity or poverty,

virtue or vice,

friendship or enmity,

Godliness or devilishness,

heaven or hell, etc.

HHHHH

26

VII

If we desire and aspire for higher, nobler, healthier and happier life, we must first of all avoid, discard, brush aside or forget our lower ideas and thoughts, as soon as they sprout in our mind. At the same time, we should try to replace or substitute them with higher, nobler and inspiring thoughts.

If the depraved thoughts are not forgotten or diverted, but are entertained and cultivated, they percolate and permeate deep into our mind and then into the sub- consciousness. Gradually, in course of time, they become insidious and powerful to enslave us, make us corrupt, depraved and vulgar, with a trail of lower elements of selfishness, envy, prejudice, avarice, jealousy, hatred, anger, egoism, aggressiveness, wickedness, cruelty and what not.

The easiest and quickest way to get out of this vicious circle of harmful thoughts, and to save ourselves from the pernicious consequences of these depraved thoughts is :

— to replace and substitute them with higher, nobler and inspiring thoughts,

27

— to divert our mind to sublime contemplation and spiritual meditation; and

— to seek awakened and enlightened souls and imbibe sublime inspiration in their holy company.

The example of a vessel with putrid and stinky solution will illustrate the point, and make it more comprehensible. It may be easy to pour out the foul solution from the vessel and replace it with better one, but the putrid solution of mindvessel cannot be wishfully poured out.

This Mental Solution constitutes infinite, perverted ideas and thoughts, insidiouly collected and condensed in our Mental Computer over many many years and countless past lives.

Therefore, we must understand and realise how tedious and difficult a task it is to change the pernicious and vicious thought solution of our mind-vessel, and to adopt and practically work a new course of higher and nobler lives. Our efforts in this direction have to be incessant, steadfast and tenacious, with determination, resolution and perseverance, against all kinds of circumstances, environment, temptations and stubborn opposition from perverse elements, both inside and outside.

As explained above, our lower and depraved thoughts have engraved very deep grooves in our sub- consciousness, through so many past lives, and have

28

fructified into our character or second nature. Therefore, persistent, tenacious and Herculian efforts are required to change, modify or erase these perverse grooves from our sub-consciousness, so as to manifest any perceptible improvement in our behaviour and habits.

However, we should not be discouraged by our slow progress, or recesses, but continue persistently, with renewed resolution in our efforts, until we make a mark for the better, in our behaviour, habits, ideology and character.

Thereafter, the process of change becomes smoother, quicker and more manifest in every aspect of our daily life.

But the crucial point is to develop our inner sense of discrimination, where we can distinguish between :

right and wrong,

good and bad,

virtue and vice,

morality and sin,

love and hatred,

materialism and religion,

religion and spiritualism,

saint and hypocrat,

God and devil, and

make the important choice of our future course of higher and nobler life.

29

Without this discrimination and choice, our lives are like compass-less, radar-less ships drifting about aimlessly, and knocked about and battered by storms and vagaries of the vast ocean.

In order to :

— develop the power of discrimination,

— make decision about crucial choice of life's course,

— take a turning point of life, and

— walk on the chosen course of life,

inspiration, help and guidance of the Enlightened Souls is very essential. In their company and with their guidance, our minds are gradually purified and spiritualised, and we become amenable and conductive to the sublime influence of subtle vibrations of Divine Light and Energy. At the same time, the influence of materialism is imperceptibly reduced from our consciousness in due course of time.

The more our thoughts are spiritualised by sublime company and meditation, the more they become subtler, powerful and dynamic, with reflections from Divine Light and energy.

HHHHH

VIII

Minute sensitive waves of our thought-current are constantly and habitually scattered and wasted in the outer directions towards materialistic world, and are spent, absorbed and lost in materialism. These extroverted thought-waves have to be collected, concentrated and directed inwards to the source of all-powers, i.e., our souls.

This is practically a Reverse Process of mind From —

habitual, unconscious process of extroversion in which we are frittering away and spending up our latent inherent power and making our mind and body weak and exhausted.

To :

introspection, i.e., directing our thought-waves inwards, by concentration, contemplation and meditation on Divinity-the source of all powers.

By this Reverse Process, we conserve and strengthen our energy and augment our inherent power by contact with and reflection from the Omnipotent Divinity.

31

This Reverse Process of mind, called Meditation, has been defined and described in the past in numerous scriptures by Spiritual Masters, and various methods have been suggested and prescribed for its practice from time to time.

The easiest process of meditation is to concentrate the mind on the Divine Word, i.e., Gur-Mantar, and repeat it continuously for some minutes in the beginning. The duration of meditation should be increased gradually with practice. Sit in a comfortable posture in a reserved room close your eyes and meditate at fixed time regularly, both morning and evening, as also at any other available time during the course of the day; even during sleepless intervals of night. Keep reminding your mind to avail of all possible opportunities, without letting off a single one, in repeating the Gur-Mantar.

Repeat the Gur-Mantar in a slow voice, so that you may hear the whisper yourself. By this simple method concentration on the Word becomes easy and smooth.

This is, of course, the preliminary technique, meant for the beginner.

In due course, with consistent un-interrupted practice of repetition, the Gur-Mantar will imperceptibly dissolve into Shabad, i.e., Word-less WORD, vibrating with sublime thrill, bliss, joy and love. At this stage, Simran or meditation becomes effortless, automatic, spontaneous and enjoyable.

32

To attain such an exalted state of Blissful Consciousness, the following pre-requisities are essential :-

minimum involvement in worldliness, complete detachment,

complete and utter discard of Ego unflinching faith in Divinity,

intense devotion to Guru,

selfless, loving and devotional service, regular, faithful, meditation on Naam, inspiring company of Illuminated and Enlightened Souls, viz. God-Men, Guru's Grace.

IX

We erroneously identify our self with our body and environment. This identification and attachment is the root cause of our bondage, misery and sufferings. Actually our body and the visible world around, are mere projections and materialisation of our mind process, i.e., our thoughts, emotions, perceptions, convictions and faith. It is in the mental state of consciousness that we imagine, think and behold any thing as a person or material; and something as good or bad.

In as much as the sense-world is a mere image in the mind, the mind acts as an instrument for the projection of its higher-self, i.e., the Soul. This higher-self or the God-consciousness is the basic, original, only real and eternal creative principle, and substance of all life. However, the dense clouds of our egoistic thoughts and beliefs over-shadow the effulgent soul within, and we fail to recognise and realise our Divine Inheritance.

God-consciousness operates through the faculty of mind. On the intellectual plane, we might be tempted to think of mind as creative possessing power. But, in

34

reality, it is the omnipotent Divine Soul which manifests through the mind in all physical form. It is merely the condition of mind which determines as to what we see and experience in the material world.

We often say, a particular person is very material minded, while someone is Spiritual-minded. But mind, by itself, is unconditioned. It simply projects what is entertained in it through the thoughts. We are either letting it be permeated with higher, sublime thoughts or lower, depraved thoughts. A mind receptive to the Divine Inflow, and conditioned to the thoughts of purity, cooperation, charity, forgiveness, kindness, and love must exude goodness, peace and harmony. On the other hand, when the mind misuses its inherited freedom and entertains perverted thoughts, it becomes out-of-tune with the Divine Will, thereby creating disharmony in the material world. A mind filled with negative and depraved thoughts of fear, disease, limitation, lack, selfishness, lust, malice, hate, revenge, etc., reflects them in all aspects of our life.

Since the good or bad that comes to our experience is determined by what is allowed to pass through the mind, the importance of thought-power in making a harmonious living or a hell for ourselves, and for all the world around, cannot be overemphasised. We simply create what we think.

However, as long as we are attached to any kind of thoughts, good or bad, we are still in the realm of mind. Once we come to realise our true identity through the faculty of mind, we simply surrender ‘our self’ to

35

the ‘God self’. This conscious awareness takes us beyond the realm of mind, into God's Grace. In such a surrender we are stripped-off of our personal sense of power -both physical and mental, and realise that only God's Power creates and directs the universe, and sustains all its activity.

In the Spiritual Sense, the mind only functions as : —

—a means for the realisation of God consciousness,

— a channel of the projection and manifestation of the Divine Power.

Mind imbued with Spirituality becomes an instrument through which the Divine Grace flows and externalises in the form of abundance, harmony, peace, joy, bliss and love; resulting in wondrous, beautiful life.

X

The conception of mind-power is as illusory as that of material power. Both belong to, and work within the cosmic world. They are governed by various cosmic laws-such as :

The Karmic Law — ‘As you sow, so shall you reap’. As you think, so you become.

Like attracts like.

Law of compensation.

The law of action and reaction. Law of gravity.

The law of relativity, etc.

These powers can be acquired and developed, or depleted and lost, according to the concentration and condition of our thoughts and the consequent actions. They are, however, quite limited and fleeting, and are subject to the law of duality in that they can be manipulated and used for both good and evil purposes.

Lost in materialism and mental powers, we conveniently forget that there is but one real power, and that power is God-Power or the Divine Power.

37

Divine Power is the source and fountain-head of all power; and the cosmic powers are derived from, and are only a faint reflection of, this innate Spiritual Power.

The Divine Power is infinite. Its sunshine - the ‘Word’ (Shabad) or ‘Naam’ is also boundless and infinite. It manifests by itself, and remains the only —

original,

self-creating,

sustaining,

principle of the universe.

effulgent,

glorious, and

eternal

The Divine Power is ever expressing itself as :

Eternal life

Light

Wisdom

Power

Abundance

Kindness

Compassion

Love,

and above all, a rhythmic flow of Grace.

God's spirit is inherent in all creation. All the elements of the cosmos are created, developed, sustained,

38

integrated and disintegrated by this Supreme Divine Power. These elements work under the cosmic law, projecting from the Divine Will.

God is infinite source of Grace, Power and Bliss and human soul is a natural heir to that heritage. If we have not been able to appropriate in full this Divine Heritage, it is due to our depraved thinking and egoistic consciousness.

Being a ray of Infinite Light — The Prime Soul, the journey or flight of the human soul extends to infinity. There are infinite realms through which the soul has to pass on its way to Eternity. The infinite Divine Power is inherent and lies latent in every soul. We have only to tap the fountain of this Divine Power within our souls to become channels for the projection of Infinite Spiritual Power.

When the soul is enlightened by the Grace of God, and intuitionally ushered into the Divine Realm, it is filled with all the sublime attributes of Divinity, and Divine Power flows through it smoothly and effortlessly.

The enlightened soul inherits and acquires dynamic Spiritual Power which over shadows all other wordly and psychic powers with its effulgence and glory.

In fact such Illuminated and Enlightened Souls become Ministers of the Cosmos, capable of controlling its elements. A mere passing wish of a God-man can activate the elements and work extra-terrestrial Phenomena or Divine Miracles which strike awe and amazement in the minds of the common people.

39

These powers are Gifts of God and flow into the minds of God-men from Divinity.

But when we are tempted to use these sublime powers-

for selfish materialistic ends,

to feed and boost our Ego,

to exhibit spiritual achievements,

to entertain the curiosity of people,

to attract and allure large number of admirers

and followers,

to exalt our religious or spiritual personality, or

to advertise our name, fame and holiness,

we are degrading, disgracing and misusing the Divine Gift of these powers.

By taking material and religious advantages of psychic powers, we are —

misusing these powers

denigrating their sublimity,

digressing the Divine Law,

interfering with the smooth natural flow of Divine

Life-current.

acting out of tune with Divine Harmony, sinning against the Divine Will, and

unconsciously spending and losing the acquired power.

40

When we are blessed and bestowed with the Divine Gift of Spiritual Power, we become —

— mirrors for the reflection of Divinity;

— channels for projection and manifestation of Divine Power;

— agencies for dispensation of sublime attributes of kindness, compassion, energy, joy, bliss and love; and

— media for the expression and working of the Divine Will.

This is the culmination and ultimate fulfillment of the purpose of our lives in the Eternal Divine Drama of the cosmos, and this conscious realisation of the Grace of the Lord fills our souls with His Blessings of sublime wisdom, joy, bliss and love.

The worldly powers of mind and materialism only boost and inflate our egoistic consciousness, and are liable to be misappropriated and exploited for baneful selfish purposes. They also deviate us from the real goal of Spiritual life of God-Head.

The salvation of the world, therefore, lies only in the realization of Spiritual Power. This power we shall not manipulate for our personal glorification and ulterior purposes but rather we consciously allow this power to use us for the Divine purpose.

The real power is in this conscious union with God. In His Grace, there is but one power, without an

41

opposite, and only the Divine Law (Hukam) operates.

The Divine Consciousness can be experienced in a moment of silence, by the Grace of the Lord, and the only way that leads us to that point is the contemplation on and practice of Divine Naam or the meditation on the Divine word, i.e., Simran with intense faith and love. This is made easy in the company of Enlightened, Illuminated, and Blessed Souls -Sadh Sangat, because God's Grace incessantly flows to such Spiritual Personalities and in turn flows out from them to bless the seekers.

CONCLUSION

God is one, without a second.

God is :

of the infinite cosmos.

all powerful

all pervading

all engulfing

all effulgence

all intelligence

all kindness

all forgiving

all compassion

all embracing love infinite

perfect omni-potent omniscient

Divine Father Divine Mother Divine Creator Divine Sustainer

43

God is immanent in His many Divine Attributes of : Glory,

Grace, Effulgence,

Power, Compassion,

Kindness, Joy,

Bliss, and Love.

God is all powerful; i.e., all power belongs to God.

There is no other power.

The Divine Power is :

infinite, all-pervading, all-engulfing, and self-effulgent,

and is projected and manifested through the cosmic consciousness in various reflections.

Therefore, all other powers we perceive or are aware of, are the reflections and projection of the Divine Power.

The cosmos derives all kinds of powers from the only source of Divine Power.

But in our egoistic deception we believe that there are different kinds of powers coming from different sources.

44

All the attributes of the sun, such as light, heat, energy, life sustaining properties, etc., are projected, reflected and manifested through sun-rays to sustain the cosmos.

Similarly, in His benevolent Grace, God spontaneously provides abundantly all the needs of His children, the creatures of the cosmos, even without their knowledge or asking.

The infinite celestial attributes of God mentioned above are silently, invisibly, secretly and emaculately reflecting and working consistently in the cosmos through His power and Grace, to create, develop, sustain and entertain His innumerable children of the cosmos.

We, the creatures, with even our limited power and intelligence, try to provide our babies with all their needs and comforts under the instinct of our parental affections.

Therefore, it is unthinkable that such a Loving, Kind, Gracious, Great Divine Father should have left His dear children to fend for themselves at the mercy of adverse materialistic forces.

In fact, it is the Divine Power and Grace that

creates, develops,

sustains,

degenerates, and again

regenerates

all creatures of the universe.

45

It is again God's Power and Grace that provides in abundance all the needs of His children for ever and without asking.

But we are unable to perceive and realize the Benevolent Divine Law of Providence in our egoistic illusion. Thereby we create obstructions in the natural inflow of Divine-Power and Grace into our mind which becomes stagnated and depraved with wrong thoughts. In doing so, we invite all sorts of troubles, problems and miseries, and make a ‘hell’ of our lives.

The heavy clouds of selfishness, doubts, fears, conflicts, turmoil, confrontation, etc., engulfing the universe, is the result and positive proof of our depraved thoughts and wrong perceptions emanating from our egoistic consciousness.

Due to egoistic consciousness and superfluous faith in Divinity, we deprive ourselves of the ever- flowing abundance of His Kindness, Compassion, Grace and Love.

The light of the sun is reflected into our room through glass panes and curtains. If the glass panes are coloured and the curtains are heavy, the flow of light into the room is curtailed.

Similarily, when our mind is clouded with wrong thoughts and perceptions of egoistic consciousness, the reflection of the ever-present Divine Power and Grace on our mind is diluted and restricted.

In other words, the inflow of Divine Gifts of Love and Grace is in proportion to our faith in Divine Power.

46

The following illustration may help to elucidate the subtle difference between :

— the ‘Primal Divine Power’ and

— the illusionary conception of cosmic powers, working in the materialistic world.

The sperm grows into foetus in the womb.

The foetus is being nourished and protected within the womb without outside interference or help.

This process of growth of the foetus goes on invisibly, secretly, with meticulous precision and ingenious perfection, in which the ‘mother’ has no conscious part to play. It is solely the Divine Power working silently, secretly and perfectly.

In fact, this wonderful process of ‘gestation’ is one of the awe-inspiring miracle of Divine Power and Wisdom, but we take it as ‘casual’ and fail to recognise it as Divine Power. On the other hand, the ‘mother’ thinks that she herself has conceived, nourished, sustained and developed the ‘foetus’ into a ‘baby’. This is the egoistic blasphemy on the part of the mother. When the foetus is grown, it is ushered into the world as a ‘baby’.

Here again the Divine Power and Grace works spontaneously to supply suitable milk :

in the breasts of the mother and

instill the insinct of ‘motherly love’ for the baby in the heart of the mother.

47

With this ‘motherly love’ she cares for, nurses, protects and makes sacrifices, in the up-bringing of the baby.

As the baby grows, the Divine Power provides it with teeth to eat and also other human faculties.

Here again the Divine Power and Grace works silently and secretly for the

growth development

sustenance, and protection

of the baby into full manhood or womanhood in which very little conscious part is played by the parents. But the egoistic parents think that the child has grown up with their own efforts and wisdom, thus denying the real Divine Power and Grace silently working in this process.

At both pre-natal and post-natal stages, God's Grace and Power work through the body of the ‘mother’ for the growth, sustenance and development of the child.

In the case of foetus, mother's body is unconsciously used as an ‘incubator’.

In the case of the ‘baby’, God's Grace and love descends and permeates the heart of the ‘mother’ so that she can nurse the baby with tender care and affections.

This ‘motherly love’ is actually a ‘reflection’ of God's Grace and Love, and the ‘mother’ becomes a ‘channel’

48

for the outflow of the Divine Grace and Love for the baby.

In fact, the Divine Father who provides nourishment and protection to the foetus within the womb, and milk in the breasts of the ‘mother’ without the conscious knowledge of the baby and the mother, had created vast Nature and made Eternal Law of Providence to provide all the needs of His children in abundance for their growth, sustenance and entertainment for ever.

In fact the Loving Grace of the all-powerful Divine Father is ‘all-sufficient’, for the needs of His children to enable them to live in and enjoy the comforts of peace and bliss in the Heaven of Divine Kingdom.

But it seems so absurd and strange to think that human being - the ‘king’ of all creatures, and made in ‘His own image’, should be so unhappy, worried, miserable, and suffering in the veritable hell of his own delusion.

It is obvious that there are two distinct, contrary and opposite worlds existing in the universe :

1. The world of Peace, Bliss, Love and Abundance, i.e., the Kingdom of God's Grace.

2. The illusive unreal, self-created world of worry, turmoil, sufferings and miseries, i.e., egoistic world of Maya.

The former has roots in the reality of Divine Presence and Grace, while the latter is based on false illusionary egoistic consciousness.

49

But these two worlds are not different physical planes or spheres. They are culmination of thoughts, perceptions, beliefs and faith in our consciousness -

Egoistic or Divine.

If we have fallen from the ‘Kingdom of God’ to ‘materialistic hell’, the cause lies in our own consciousness.

It is, therefore, obvious that for the transition of our ego-consciousness to Divine Consciousness, the process of our thoughts and beliefs has to be transformed and reversed:

from — negative and depraved egoistic thoughts of materialistic world,

to — positive and sublime thoughts of Divine Love and Grace.

It is so easy to

discuss

give discourses

preach

philosophise

sermonise

intellectually about this ‘reverse process’ of thoughts, beliefs and conceptions, but it is a very difficult task to emulate and practise this ‘percept’ honesty into our daily life.

This is because the false idea of ‘I’, ‘me’ and ‘mine’, projected from the illusive ego has permeated very

50

deep in our consciousness by consistent practice during so many past lives and has become a part of our ‘self’ and we cannot think or act otherwise.

Therefore, our understandings, beliefs and perceptions of ‘things spiritual’ remain shallow and superfluous on the surface of our consciousness and do not touch or affect the core of our egoistic self, Hence, all this self deception and hypocracy is prevailing in the universe.

In this ‘self-deception’ of egoistic consciousness, we believe that we possess all powers to :

— Provide ourselves with all our needs, — fulfill our selfish desires and aspirations, — make our life comfortable and happy,

— solve all our problems,

— mitigate or remove our sufferings,

— make plans for the future,

— guide the destiny of our life.

But in spite of all our individual and collective materialistic and intellectual achievements, our problems, unhappiness and miseries have not decreased or been eliminated. In fact our problems, sorrows and miseries have been increasing and multiplying manifold with the advancement of our so-called civilization, thus turning this world into a veritable hell.

It is ironic that in spite of : — higher education,

— scientific achievement,

51

— massive religious literature,

— unending social and religious propaganda,

the humanity is still groping in the darkness of egoistic illusion of Maya; and peace, happiness, contentment, joy and love are still a far cry, beyond the reach of humanity.

The crux of the subject is that in our egoistic illusion, we entirely rely on our own illusionary power and intelligence, which is just a faint reflection or limited projection of the Divine Power. This illusionary power of mankind is the source of all evils, sufferings and miseries of humanity, such as :

selfishness covertness

pride corruption

conflict confrontation

quarrels war, etc.

Accoding to the saying ‘Power corrupts’, and more power corrupts more — when we acquire :

— money power — sword power — gun power

— nuclear power — physical power

52

— political power

— pen power

— intellectual power — emotional power — psychic power

— occult power

— hypnotic power

— magic power

— tantaric power, etc.,

we become more corrupt, thereby we increase and multiply the problems, unhappiness, sufferings and miseries of the universe of these acquired powers for our selfish ends to the deteriment of others.

All these powers are developed by consistent efforts and hard work over long periods, but are useful for only a short span of life.

They are liable to be modified, diminished or lost in course of time by exigencies of life, i.e., change of circumstances, disease, age, mishaps or death. Therefore, these acquired powers are temporary, fleeting and illusive.

With the development of these cosmic powers, our ‘Ego’ is boosted and inflated. It is only through our egoistic consciousness that we become aware of our separate individual entities. As separate entities, our individual thoughts, beliefs and interests come into conflict, which ensue all sorts of selfishness, bitterness, hatered, jealousy and confrontation. In such egoistic clashes, we are apt to abuse our petty powers to the detriment of others.

53

In our egoistic illusion, we believe that these fleeting cosmic powers are supreme and exclusive. We often abuse them for our egoistic desires and whims, and to carry out evil designs.

Hence these cosmic powers become ‘negative’ and harmful. Some of these occult and magical powers are ‘antisocial’, violent, destructive and horrifying, creating more problems and miseries in the universe.

Our individual and collective ‘Egoistic Powers’ are the root cause of all problems, turmoils, sufferings and miseries of the world.

When these egoistic powers clash and overlap, the problems get intricated and messed up.

In trying to solve our problems, with our petty egoistic powers, we unconsciously and inadvertently create many more problems. Thus we are caught in a vicious circle.

To extricate ourselves from this vicious circle, we again unconsciously rely on our own petty egoistic powers, which created this mess originally.

This makes us more unhappy, frustrated and miserable in this ‘self-created’ mess.

The corrupt and depraved state of our social, political and religious affairs, obtaining in our homes, institutions, nations and the world, is the positive proof of the polluted thought environment and abuse of our egoistic powers.

If and when we realise that our petty egoistic powers are inadequate to solve our problems or mitigate

54

our sufferings, we shall turn to the higher Spiritual Power with humility and faith.

This does not mean that we should not make efforts to acquire and develop our latent physical, mental and emotional faculties. These faculties are Gifts of God to the humanity and should be developed and utilised to make our short sojourn in this world more happy and comfortable, and to guide others towards better and happy lives.

In fact, all these human faculties are ‘Love-Gifts’ of the Lord to his children and we are privileged to develop them for the good of humanity.

With humble thankfulness and devotion we should aspire for, and seek the Grace of the Lord, for higher spiritual gifts of Divine Kingdom.

Like the sun-shine, this Grace of God is flowing eternally and is the only creating and sustaining principle of the Cosmos.

Our faith in Divinity is the subtle ‘fuse-wire’, which can connect our ‘egoistic self’ with the sublime ‘Divine Self’. Then the ‘egoistic self’ loses its false identity and merges with, and becomes the ‘Divine Self’, through which God's Grace flows incessantly.

However, when our ‘faith in Divinity’ is weakend or lost, we become ‘negative’ and are thereby deprived of the Divine Power and Grace.

Like ‘Love’, faith cannot be learnt, taught or acquired intellectually.

55

Faith is subtle feeling of trust, belief, and a condition of the heart and higher consciousness.

Faith is kindled, ingnited, developed and intensified in our higher consciousness, i.e., Intuition — by sublime inspiration from Men of faith, i.e., Enlightened Souls —

through :

their personal contact and company,

their sublime spiritual writings,

their examplary behaviour and inspiring life, and

the personal spiritual experiences of the aspirant.

Faith is the only means of communion between the aspiring Soul and the Divine Self.

Such spiritual communion can take place only in the higher consciousness of the soul, i.e., ‘Intuition’.

By such spiritual communion, all the attributes and powers of the Divine Self, i.e., God, spontaneously flow into the aspiring Soul.

When a woman conceives, she develops subtle affection for her unborn child, which she carries in her womb. Unconsciously and constantly she conveys her subtle affections and good wishes to the foetus. The foetus receives these faint motherly affections during pregnancy, and tender ‘motherly love’ is unconsciously implanted in the heart and soul of the unborn child.

After birth, the baby continues to receive physical and emotional motherly love through tender care and nursing by the mother.

56

In this unconscious subtle process, the baby develops faith and love for the ‘mummy’. To the baby the mummy is her provider, protector, nurse, God and all-in-all. Her innocent faith in her ‘mummy’ is projected and exhibited in all her innocent childish babblings and pranks. Even if the mother scolds and beats the baby, she clings to her legs with tears of love and faith for the mummy.

Such innocent faith of the baby for her ‘mummy’ is very powerful as it drives the mother to provide her child with all her needs without asking.

The perfect innocent faith of the baby for her mummy, puts us the grow-up intellectuals and wisacres to shame, as we have very shallow faith in our Real, All Powerful Divine Mother.

As the baby grows up, she becomes intelligent, wise and independent, and her natural faith in the parents is proportionally diminished. In the degree, the ‘faith’ is weakened, parent's care is lessened, and in the end, the child is left to fend for itself.

From the above illustration, it transpires that so long as we have unflinching faith in our all-powerful Divine ‘Mother’, we are unconsciously provided with all our needs, even without our knowing and asking. But when the egoistic consciousness dawns on our intelligence, our innate faith in Divinity is weakend, and the inflow of abundance into our life from the Divine Kingdom is diminished, and we become ‘prodigal sons’ left to fend for ourselves in this vast materialistic world.

57

The looking glass reflects the images of single phase of the surroundings. We have to change the angle of the looking glass to get images of other phases.

Our mind is also a one-sided subtle ‘looking glass’ which takes only the images of this materialistic world and forms ideas, thoughts, opinion which in course of time become beliefs, convictions and faith.

By constantly : seeing

observing thinking

dwelling contemplating

on the illusive phase of his materialistic world of ‘Maya’ during so many lives, we have become unaware, ignorant or forgetful of higher, sublimer Real World of God's Kingdom.

It is, therefore, obvious that if we want to realize the real Divine Kingdom, we will have to change, redirect and divert our mind and thoughts from the present materialistic phase. But this process of diversion and transformation of our mind, thoughts and consciousness is possible only in the magnetic field or ‘aura’ of Enlightened and Blessed Souls, who live in the Divine Kingdom and enjoy the Grace and Love of the Lord.

The human beings, with all the weakness and propensities of being influenced by the powerful gravity of ‘Maya’, in the darkness of egoistic illusion, are unable

58

to aspire for, or try to undertake the task of changing or reversing the process of their, consciousness by themselves.

In other words, ‘Man of Faith’, i.e., an Enlightened and Blessed Soul is required to inspire and re-ignite our latent Faith in the Divine Power, and Grace. Thus, the Reverse Process of re-orientation or transformation of our consciousness can be initiated, sustained and developed by constant inspiration in the company of ‘Men of Faith’, i.e., Illuminated Souls. The newly inspired and ignited soul is then ushered and re-admitted into the Divine Kingdom, and becomes ‘Beloved Son’ of God, enjoying all the happiness, powers, bliss, joy and love of Divine Kingdom. His ‘egoistic self’ is re- oriented, transformed and transmuted into the ‘Divine Self’, and he is no longer troubled with materialistic casual desires and ambitions.

He is invested with all the attributes and powers of the Divine Kingdom by virtue of his ‘spiritual inheritance’ as ‘Son of God’. If necessary, he uses these spiritual powers in response to the dictates of his ‘inner self’, for the good of the universe.

He becomes a tiny pinion in the vast drama of the cosmos to carry on his assignment with selflessness and dedication. He works for ‘Thee’ and ‘Thine’, in conjunction, and in tune with the Divine Will. It becomes his ‘Loving service’ offered to the Lord with humility and devotion.

59

In this sublime spiritual consciousness, God's Grace and love becomes ‘self-sufficient’ to :

— provide all the needs of the soul in abundance,

— nurse the souls with the motherly tender care,

— protect and sustain the soul in the illusive world of Maya,

— solve all kinds of problems,

— eliminate all the sufferings and miseries,

— bless the soul with the Divine Gifts of peace, happiness, joy and bliss.

— bask in the cosy sunshine of Divine Effulgence,

— free the soul from the clutches of ‘Karmic Law’,

— enjoy the sweet grace and love in the lap of Divine Mother.

Such Enlightened and Blessed Souls become desireless and contented, and are lost in the ecstasy of humility and thankfulness for all the Divine Blessings and Gifts showered on them by the Grace and Love of the Lord.

Having been admitted into the Divine Realm,

the soul becomes a member of the Genuine Spiritual Brotherhood and Sisterhood, and is endowed with all the attributes and powers of Divinity. Thus it holds the whole cosmos in its palms!

POWER OF THOUGHTS

SPRITUAL OASIS IN THE DESERT OF MAYA(“KHOJI “ BAUJI JASWANT SINGH).

SPIRITUAL OASIS IN THE DESERT OF MAYA

I

The profound Mercy and Grace of God is manifested in the existance of ‘life-giving’ natural water springs and the associated greenary and throbbing life amidst the otherwise burning sand-dunes of deserts. These beautiful spots, called OASIS, provide to the caravans of travellers rest, relief, and solace during their dreary and gruesome journeys through the vast expanses of barren, desolate and burning DESERT.

These deserts extend to thousands of miles, where nothing but sand-dunes are visible all around the horizon. These sand-dunes change or shift from place to place with strong winds which carry the sand. Hence, there can be no demarcation in this vast expanse of desert, as foot-marks or paths are immediately covered by the blowing sand.

People travel over these sign-less deserts in caravans with the help of ‘Guides’ or by their own inherent instincts. During the day the sandy expanse is heated by the scorching sun, making it a veritable vast oven.

If one is lost in these desolate deserts, he suffers from the agonies of the scorching sun, and would die of thirst and hunger.

These deserts are so barren, desolate with scorching heat, that no life can exist there.

These ‘Deserts’ and ‘Oasis’ belong to the earthly physical plane. They are symbolic of the inner Deserts and Oasis on the subtle planes of our consciousness. Both are Blessings of God for His children at different planes. The ‘Physical Oasis’ are needed to save human beings from the miseries of hot, sandy deserts, and are only a transient relief and refuge. On the other hand, the ‘Spiritual Oasis’ are the Effulgence and Grace of Divinity, pervading and engulfing the consciousness of Awakened and Enlightened Souls. They are the immanent blessings of God, to save humanity from the dreary, desolate, and burning desert of illusive ‘Maya’.

Human mind is unconsciously and incessantly weaving and shaping his own good or bad world, within and around himself, by his own thoughts and deeds.

Every thought, good or bad, that emanates from the mind, sends subtle vibrations all over the Universe through Electrons, which are registered in the Infinite, Perfect, Universal Computer of Ether.

Thus, billions of thoughts emanating every moment from the minds of the whole universe are being registered and processed by the universal computer. The cycles

2 and wave-lengths of various degrees of subtle vibrations of our thoughts and deeds, good or bad, accumulate and shape the subtle environment of Universal Mind, which reflect in, and condition the world around us.

In this subtle mental process, our thoughts and faith have profound influence in :

directly shaping our character, fate and destiny,

indirectly moulding and modifying the subtle environment of the universe,

re-coiling on the whole humanity, collectively.

In fact, every thought is a dynamic seed, which sprouts in the mind, flourishes in the mental world, and engulfs the entire Universe. These cummulative thoughts change the environment of the entire world, and thereby make our collective social lives happy or miserable.

In other words, the environment or circumstances of the world are conditioned by, and dependent on the kind of our thoughts, conceptions, and faith.

‘As you think, so you become’.

This world, good or bad, is the outcome of our own individual and collective thinking, and faith.

God created a ‘Heaven’ on Earth for his children to live in and enjoy it, but we, the ‘prodigal sons’ have turned it into a ‘hell-like’ vicious rendezvous, or dry, dreary, desolate, burning desert, with our wrong and depraved thoughts.

3 These perverted thoughts and mis-conceptions have degenerated our moral values and social life as well.

This explains the tense and vicious atmosphere and environment of :

selfishness, deceit, injustice, corruption, pride, envy, prejudice, avarice, hatred, aggrandizement,

wickedness,

sensuality,

jealousy,

unrest, strife, violence, cruelty, and wars,

prevailing all over the world.

These vices have ignited various kinds of :

desire,

greed, lust, anger,

4 attachment, and ego

in our consciousness.

In our incessant efforts to satisfy and fulfill these fleeting egoistic, and sensual desires, we are unconsciously adding more ‘fuel’ to our self-ignited ‘bon-fires’ within, which makes our lives dry, dreary, unhappy, miserable, desolate and hellish.

We have developed and projected our tastes, fancies, desires, luxuries to the extreme degree of refinement.

These refined tastes and desires have become an obsession with us, and we have practically become slaves of the ‘Ghost’ of unending desires and ambitions.

When we try to fulfill one desire, more desires crop

up,

Most of our attention, energy, time and money is spent or wasted in the persuit of these unnecessary, harmful, ever-increasing, unending baser desires.

Consequently, no time or energy is left for us to pay any attention to sublimer aspects of life !

These desires drive us to extreme and desperate means for their fulfilment, where we lose all sense of morality, ethics, logic, reasoning, or discrimination, between :

good or bad, fair or unfair, virtue or vice,

5 just or unjust, legal or illegal.

With such corrupt and polluted mentality, we are involved in all sorts of problems, controversies, quarrels, violence, enmity, which enhance our :

restlessness, miseries, unhappiness, frustration to make our lives a vertiable dry, dreary, barren, desolate, burning, agonising

‘desert’ or hell.

HHHHH

6 II

God created such a joyful and blissful ‘heaven’ on Earth for his Angelic Children, but we, human ‘prodigal Sons’ have turned away from, and denied our Divine Father, the God, and have come under the magical spell of illusive ‘Maya’.

We have therefore, turned this celestial ‘Heaven’ on Earth, into a veritable dry, dreary, desolate, vicious, burning ‘Desert’, devoid of noble divine virtues of :

kindness,

compassion, peace, faith, devotion, love, joy, and bliss.

Consequently, it is no wonder that we suffer from :

unhappiness, worries, frustration,

7 miseries, agonies

of our own making !

Our lop-sided materialistic research and achievements have overshadowed and obscured the primal, original, and true ‘Science of the Soul’.

We have developed and projected our intelligence to the extreme horizons of the cosmos, but have consciously or unconsciously ignored and denied our ‘Father - the God and His Divinity.

In other words, we are so charmed, absorbed, and lost in the ‘Science of the Cosmos’, that we have no inclination, aptitude or time to study the sublime ‘Science of the Soul’.

The net result of our lop-sided materialistic development has been :

mistrust,

fear, hatred, unrest, strife, aggression, violence, cruelty, wars, devastation, miseries

prevailing all over the universe.

8 Even so, at the moment, unrest, violence, hostilities and wars are going on at so many places.

This means that our advancement into the ‘Science of the Cosmos’, has been achieved at the cost of the ‘Science of the Soul’.

Consequently, we are absorbed and lost in materialistic pursuits of the cosmos, entirely forgetting or ignoring the Original, True, Blissful, Spiritual aspect of life.

This materialistic involvement has transmuted our consciousness into dry, desolate and burning ‘deserts’ and is the basic cause of all our unhappiness, miseries and agonies.

We have lost faith in the Creator, the God. This ‘faithlessness’ or superfluous belief in Divinity, has degenerated and transformed ‘humanity’ into ‘prodigal sons’, and veritable slaves of the illusive ‘Maya’.

This illusion of ‘Maya’ brings with it a trail of baser instincts of :

ego,

selfishness,

lust,

deceit,

prejudice,

envy,

hatred,

jealousy,

9 anger,

indignation

and what not, to make our lives so :

degenerated,

unhappy,

frustrated,

vicious,

miserable,

dry,

dreary, and

desolate.

Without this faith in Divinity, ‘humanity’ is amenable to the baneful influence of ‘Maya’, and be seduced by its be-witching charm. Gradually, under the magical spell of the illusive ‘Maya’, we fail to understand, grasp, believe in the Authority of Divine Will, and unconsciously deprive ourselves of the benevolent and compassionate inflow of Divine joy, Bliss, Love and Grace into our consciousness.

Thus we become :

arrogant,

proud, profane, aggressive, selfish, malicious, and corrupt.

10 Consequently, we human beings, individually and collectively, create conditions and environments around ourselves, full of :

misunderstandings,

misconceptions, fear, doubts, intolerance, hypocrisy, prejudice, jealousy, anger, indignation, malice, strife, enmity, revenge

and what not !

These negative depraved human instincts proliferate and spread all over the universe, making it a veritable, ‘hell’.

These invisible vicious instincts or ‘fires’ of different hues, and in various intensities, are innate in every sub-conscious mind.

These latent vicious ‘fires’ go on smouldering within us, and are easily ignited at the slightest exciting cause, and erupt like a volcano, causing terrible devastation within and around us, resulting in untold sufferings, misseries and their after-effects.

11 If we are ignorant or careless and complacement about our physical diseases, they become chronic and incurable.

Similarly, we are so ignorant or unconscious of our vicious ‘fires’ of baser instincts, that we just ignore or forget them to our own detriment.

Consequently, these baser instincts permeate deeper and deeper into our consciousness, and become incurable. They are even carried forward to our subsequent lives !

It is ironical that though man has advanced into the extreme horizons of science of the cosmos, he has failed to dive deep enough into his own consciousness, to search, understand and identify the root cause of all human ills and miseries.

Man has been so absorbed and lost in the research of cosmic science that he has no time or inclination for deeper fundamental innate ‘Science of the Soul’.

The irony of all this human tragedy is that, ‘Man’ is supposed to have been made in the ‘Image of God’, and is believed to be the ‘King’ of all creation.

And it is all the more painful and pitiable that ‘Man’, the ‘King of Creatures’ should fall prey to the illusion of Maya, inspite of :

1. all modern achievements,

intellectual

and

scientific

2. boastful modern civilization,

12 3. profession and practice of various religions,

4. profusion of moral, ethical, and religious knowledge and philosophies,

5. pious efforts of numerous social and moral institutions and august bodies like UNO, UNESCO.

Therefore, with all his scientific achievements and modern civilization, man has failed to diagnose ills of his own sub-conscious mind.

It seems so strange that although these ‘fires’ of vicious instincts pervade the whole universe, yet, NONE of us is prepared to admit it !

We have become so used to these ‘fires’ that we take them ‘by the way’, as part of our life.

We have been warned about these vicious ‘fires’ by all Prophets, Sages and Saints throughout the ages.

Though we superficially profess to be followers of a Prophet, but in reality we are all faithful ‘slaves’ of these vicious instincts, and have been suffering the resultant agonies and miseries of the desolate burning ‘deserts’ of Maya, life after life.

HHHHH

13 III

God's gift of intelligence and scientific knowledge is being abused and misused by ‘Man’ with impunity, for the pollution and destruction of His ‘Garden of Eden’ on Earth.

We, the so called intellectual giants and scientific wiseacres, are driving the hapless humanity into the headlong race towards the abyss of self-destruction and veritable hell !

We have had enough of intellectual and scientific Universities and institutions, which have not been able to discover the ‘image of God’ in Man, or ‘Science of the Soul’, within.

It is so ironical that human being with :

1. modern civilization,

2. precocious intelligence,

3. high education,

4. sophisticated scientific knowledge,

5. profuse religious knowledge,

should fall prey to the baneful illusive ‘Maya’ and unconsciously contribute towards converting the ‘Garden

14 of Eden’ on Earth into a veritable, dry, dreary, barren, desolate, burning ‘desert’.

Thus, ‘Man’ has contributed to change this world into ‘’desolate burning desert, where :

mistrust,

doubt, hatred, fear, corruption, aggression, envy, avarice, wickedness, sensuality, jealousy, selfishness, unrest, strife, violence, cruelty, wars

prevail as a rule, rather than exception !

In fact human mind and consciousness is the repository of thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs and faith, and their cummulative effect is reflected in subconscious mind, which represents our character and personality, good or bad.

15 In other words, ‘Man’ always carries within himself, his own self-created ‘Desert’ or ‘Oasis’ in his consciousness, wherever he goes and whatever he does.

For a concrete example, let us consider ‘anger’, which is one of the many depraved instincts of the creation.

When we get angry, our innate ‘fire’ of egoistic consciousness is ignited and we lose all sense of morality, ethics, reasoning and justice, and behave like brutes. We add ‘fuel’ to this ‘fire’ with our beastly behaviour, until it becomes a ‘bon-fire’ in which many people are involved with terrible results.

This self-ignited ‘bon-fire’ of ‘anger’ burns our physical and mental energies and virtues, and we become miserable nervous wrecks.

This is evident from the increasing nervous tension and mental disorders prevailing amongst the human specie.

If the outcome of one bout of anger can be so devastating, the cummulative result of frequent bouts of anger can well be imagined !

Similarly, insidious results of other human depraved instincts, such as :

selfishness,

greed, lust, desires,

16 envy, jealousy, etc.

can also be baneful and devastating, which contribute to make this world so dreadful.

Since the human mind is the repository of many of those depraved instincts, we are always under the sway of one or more of these negative elements of miseries and destruction.

Hence our mind becomes a veritable ‘bon-fire’ which we unconsciously ‘feed’ with various kinds of ‘fuels’ of our depraved instincts, to make ‘burning deserts’ of our lives.

In other words, we create dry, dreary, barren, desolate, burning ‘deserts’ in our consciousness, in which we are roasted day and night for the whole life, until and unless, we are able to find an ‘Oasis’ within our consciousness.

Frequent indulgence in these depraved instincts, make them insidious, and develop into strong propensities and formidable habits, which cannot be undone easily.

Thus, they permeate and proliferate deep into our ‘very being’ and become a part and parcel of our lives, and make ‘brutes’ of us.

In other words, ‘Man’, made in the Image of God, and supposed to live in, and enjoy the ‘Garden of Eden’ on Earth, has unconsciously developed ‘desolate burning desert’ or veritable ‘hell’ for himself, and is

17 suffering from terrible miseries and tragedies of his own making.

The crux of the matter is that these desolate burning desires in our consciousness do not end with our death.

When we ‘die’, we shed our physical bodies and our soul carries forward the old instincts in our subconsciousness to the next birth.

In fact our depraved instincts are transferred from one ‘boiling cauldron’ to another, to make us suffer miseries and agonies, life after life.

It is a tragedy that ‘human being’, made in the ‘Image of God’ , should degenerate and involve himself in such miserable burning ‘hell’, life after life, simply because he was seduced by the glittering charm of ‘Maya’, and lost faith in his Creator and Benefactor, the Gracious Loving God.

In fact, this insidious vicious fire of baser instincts of vices has been smouldering and developing in the atmosphere of the universe for quite a long time, which may blow up at any time to destroy the whole world.

In other words, we are unconsciously and complacently sitting on the top of the smouldering ‘Volcano’ of our own making, which may erupt at any time with a bang, more powerful than ‘Hiroshima’.

Thus, an unending vicious circle of sufferings and agonies of smouldering bon-fire in our consciousness is carried forward, and continued from life to life.

18 The only way to break this vicious circle of devastating ‘fire-of-hell’ is to make ‘about-turn’, or change our consciousness :

from

to

:

:

the egoistic plane of forgetfulness or denial of Divinity,

the intuitional plane of faith in Divine Benevolence of Peace, Joy, Bliss and Love.

This crucial change in consciousness is only possible with the help and guidence of Awakened, Illuminated Souls, blessed by the Lord.

The consciousness of such Blessed Souls is elevated, ignited, and illuminated with Divine Grace and Love, and is filled with celestial virtues of :

Kindness,

Compassion, Joy, Bliss, and Love.

This involves the transition of human consciouness from the physical and mental planes to the spiritual plane of intuition, i.e., Divine Intelligence and knowledge.

This transition or transformation of souls, works through intuitional infection and ignition of the aspiring soul with sublime effulgent Light, emanating from Awakened, Enlightened and Blessed Soul, by the Grace of God.

HHHHH

19 IV

Human souls are unconsciously aspiring, yearning and crying for higher and sublimer spiritual knowledge, which can save them from the cruel clutches of ‘Maya’, i.e., Quagmire of materialism.

This spiritual knowledge or ‘Science of the Soul’ can only be imparted by the Awakened, illuminated, Blessed Souls, through ‘Intuition’ only. Intellectual degrees are of no avail to grasp or realize this Spiritual Science.

Our modern science, despite wonderful achievements, is still groping in darkness about the real purpose or meaning of ‘LIFE’.

Therefore, it is unable to :

understand,

realize, grasp, comprehend, discern, analyse, search

into the secrets of the Divine Realm.

20 ‘Man’ is made in the Image of God and all Divine Attributes are inherent in the human consciousness. In fact, every particle of the cosmos possesses this Divine Heritage of :

light,

knowledge, power, kindness, forgiveness, compassion, love, joy, bliss, grace

in full and profound measure.

However the continuous flow of these Divine virtues into our consciousness, is contingent to, and limited by the condition of our individual belief and faith in Divinity.

Somehow, we have come under the baneful influence of ‘Maya’ (Satan) and are unaware of our innate Divine Heritage.

In other words, our wrong thinking and superfluous belief or lack of Faith in Divinity is the only obstruction, which limits the flow of Divine Qualities into our consciousness.

This limitation of inflow of Divine qualities into our consciousness is in proportion to the quality and intensity of our belief and faith in Divine Providence of Love

21 and Grace. And in that proportion, we partake and enjoy Divine Joy and Bliss, inherent in our souls.

Since the onus of all experiences on the physical, mental and intellectual planes lies in our own thoughts, beliefs, conceptions and faith, it is at these planes that we need discrimination or choice of thoughts and beliefs, so as to enable us to change or transform our faith and conception into subtler, sublimer planes of spiritual consciousness.

The moment the obstruction of ‘forgetfulness’ or ‘faithlessness’ is removed, and substituted by ‘belief and faith’ in the benevolence of Divine Providence, the inflow of God's Grace is spontaneously renewed into our spiritual consciousness, and we are blessed with all the Divine Virtues inherent in our souls.

It should be remembered that this ‘Maya’ exists, works, and gains strength only in the illusive darkness of our baser, degenerated consciousness.

This ‘darkness’ has no existence of its own.

Its existance depends on the absence of Light.

Darkness is the only cause of all illusions.

This illusive darkness in our mind and consciousness is called ‘Maya’.

‘Maya’ means illusive ‘Materialistic Consciousness’ of our mind, as opposed to the ‘Spiritual Consciousness’ of our soul.

As ‘Darkness’ and ‘Light’ cannot co-exist, so ‘Materialistic Consciousness’ and ‘Spiritual Consciousness’ cannot co-exist in the soul at the same time.

22 In other words, Faith in the Divine Grace of Compassion, Joy, Bliss and Love in our consciousness is the Divine Light.

In the absence of this Light of Faith, darkness of illusive ‘Maya’ prevails.

This illusive ‘Darkness of Maya’ is the root-cause of all our wrong, depraved thinking, perceptions and actions, which bring in their trail, all the unhappiness, worries and miseries of the world.

As ‘darkness of the soul’ is symbolic of illusive ‘Maya’, so is ‘Light and Grace’ symbolic of Divinity.

The dry, dreary, desolate, sandy desert on the Earth is symbolic of our depraved faithless consciousness.

Similarly, the fountain of water and greenary of ‘OASIS’ amidst the Desert, is symbolic of Divine Providence of Grace, on the sublimer plane of the human consciousness.

God, in His Gracious Mercy for His Children, created these life-giving ‘OASIS’ amidst the desolate burning desert of sand-dunes.

Similarly, God has provided ‘Celestial Oasis’ in every soul, so that His prodigal children, when lost in the maze of desolate and burning desert of ‘Maya’, can take refuge in it and enjoy the Compassion, Bliss and Love of the Divine Father, inherent in their own souls.

The underlying factor for the degeneration of human consciousness is that, man has little or no faith in Divinity. Rather, he depends on, and takes refuge in his own limited intelligence and Ego. Thus he forgets that there is ‘Spiritual Oasis’ within his own soul, where

23 he can get immediate relief, solace, rest, peace, and refuge from the scorching desert of ‘Maya’.

He runs about aimlessly, in frenzy, to get some relief from the fire of his self-created problems, worries, miseries and then foolishly takes refuge in :

drinks,

drugs, sensuality, entertainments, controversies,

which add ‘fuel’ to his worries and miseries, and make his condition worse then before.

Thus, a never-ending ‘vicious circle’ is created, and the man falls from ‘frying pan to the fire’, changing from one cauldron to another ‘boiling cauldron’, only to make his life hellish !

Even if a man is told about the ‘Spiritual Oasis’ within his own soul, he is unable to find or take refuge in it, without the inspired guidance of a ‘Spiritual Master’.

This ‘Spiritual Oasis’ exists in the sublime plane of consciousness, which cannot be reached or realised by human intelligence alone.

Such spiritual ‘Oasis’ can only be realised and enjoyed by upliftment of consciousness, from the materialistic plane of ‘Maya’ to the spiritual plane of ‘Divinity’.

This is possible only through the development of spiritual ‘Intuition’, with the help and guidance of Awakened, Enlightened and Blessed Souls, who have already found this ‘Oasis’ and are living in, and enjoying it within their souls.

HHHHH

24 V

Man has improved and invented various means of comforts, amenities, luxuries to a great extent and developed his tastes, fancies, entertainments, and recreations to fantastic degree of refinement of enjoyment.

But he has comfortably or unconsciously forgotten that there is a ‘Law of Dualty’ in Nature, inexorably working in the cosmos, viz :

darkness follows light

sorrow follows happiness

cold follows heat

death follows life

misery follows enjoyment and vice-versa.

So long as we live in, and are governed by the Cosmic Law of Dualty, we have to suffer all the rigours, unhappiness, sorrows, and miseries of materialistic world of ‘Maya’, in alternation of our happiness and enjoyment of every kind.

25 Therefore, all our efforts to mitigate or reduce our sufferings are only superfluous methods of palliation or temporary relief and amelioration.

We fail to examine the root cause of all these multifarious sufferings and miseries, and to search for a permanent cure for the eradication of the deep, insidious, all-pervading diseases of the sub-conscious mind.

Even if we become aware of the ‘fires’ of our vicious instincts, we are unable to extinguish or neutralize them, as they are too deep, insidious, and intractable, to by-pass and supervene our intelligence and reasonings.

As mentioned before, these ‘fires’ of instincts, sprout and thrive in the soil of faithlessness (or superfluous faith) in Divinity.

Therefore, for the permanent cure and eradication of these insidious, baser instincts, we have to go back and cultivate faith in Divinity.

This inspiration and cultivation of faith in Divinity can only be imbibed in the constant company of ‘Men of Faith’, i.e., Awakened and Enlightened Souls, blessed by the Grace of God.

Therefore, the only hope to save the humanity from the self-created burning, desolate ‘Desert’ of our consciousness, is to find a ‘Man of Faith’ or a ‘Spiritual Guide’, who can inspire, lead, and usher us into the ‘Divine Oasis’ within our Souls.

26 This ‘Divine Oasis’ is described in various scriptures as :

Divine Emanence Divine Effulgence Divine Light Divine Ghost Divine Presence Divine Grace Divine Truth Divine Kingdom ‘Garden of Eden’ Heaven Paradise ‘Brahm Pura’ ‘Begum Pura’ ‘Sach Khand’ ‘Nij Ghar’ ‘Shabad’ ‘Word-less Word’

Where —

Divine Kindness Divine Compassion Divine Intelligence Divine Fragrance Divine Beauty Divine Benevolence Divine Will Divine Joy

27 Divine Bliss Divine Love Divine Grace

pervade and prevail.

This ‘Divine Oasis’ or ‘Heaven’ is the innate Heritage of every soul, but is lying latent and dormant, hidden in our worldly consciousness.

The heritage of ‘Divine Grace’ or ‘Divine Oasis’ has to be :

awakened, ignited, activated, developed, and manifested

in our consciousness, through intuition, by contact with and in the company of Awakened, Enlightened Souls, blessed by the Grace of the Lord.

Such blessed souls are rare, but they are the only saviours of humanity.

These Awakened, and Enlightened Souls live, enjoy and have their being in the Spiritual Glory of the Lord, i.e., they are the living ‘Spiritual Oasis’ in the midst of desolate burning desert of ‘Maya’.

In fact, such Blessed ‘God-Men’ are the moving ‘Spiritual Universities’, imparting the ‘Science of the Soul’ to every one who comes in contact with them, and enable aspiring souls to take refuge and solace from the burning deserts of their own minds.

28 CONCLUSION

The sparks of our baser desires and instincts have been smouldering in our sub-conscious mind through many lives, since ages, which have made us habituated to, and inure from their ‘heat’, and miseries thereof.

Consequently, we have become unaware of, or indifferent to these ‘inner’ fires and take them ‘by the way’.

In fact we refuse to believe in, or entertain the concept of ‘burning desert’ or ‘Divine Oasis’ within ourselves. So, we conveniently refuse to admit that there are any ‘fires’ smouldering within ourselves !

Therefore, it is desirable to reiterate, emphasise and ‘drive home’ into the consciousness of man, the salient and crucial points concerning the ‘desert’ and ‘Oasis’ innate in his consciousness :-

When a thought is aroused in our mind, we are apt to dwell and contemplate on it.

These repeated thoughts permeate in our consciousness deeper and deeper, and gain strength.

29 —

These thoughts or desires are potentized by repetition and become dynamic.

The dynamic thoughts or desires become our habits or ‘instincts’, which cannot be resisted or changed easily.

Our baser instincts drive us to corrupt actions, to satisfy and fulfil our depraved desires.

These depraved actions make us ‘brutes’ and bring in a trail of sufferings and miseries in our lives.

Thus, a vicious circle of baser thoughts, desires and corrupt actions is created.

Consequently, we are burning in the never ceasing mental ‘desert’ of our own perverted thoughts, desires and instincts, though we are not aware of them.

These baser desires and instincts sprout and thrive in the soil of our degenerated mind, influenced and governed by ‘Maya’.

These subtle mental ‘fires’ exist in our subconscious mind and do not end with our physical death. They are carried over in our consciousness from life to life.

The root cause of these mental ‘fires’ of desires and instincts is the ‘illusion’ of our Egoistic concept of ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’, from which all baser thoughts, desires, instincts and actions sprout and project.

30 —

The grains of sand of desert, symbolize our numerous subtle thoughts and emotions on mental plane.

The sand-dunes symbolize our habits and propensities of sub-conscious mind.

The scorching Sun is symbolic of our Egoistic Consciousness.

The rays of the Sun symbolize our baser desires and instincts of :

selfishness,

avarice, attachment, pride, greed, passion, envy, anger, indignation, malice, doubt, suspicion, fear, prejudice, jealousy, enmity, revenge,

and various other vices.

The more we indulge in these vices, the more we suffer.

31 —

The heat of the Sun symbolizes the subtle ‘heat’ of our depraved emotions and instincts, generated in the process of expression and projection of ‘I’, ‘Me’ .and ‘Mine’.

The burning ‘desert’ symbolizes the illusive ‘Maya’, in which we live, and suffer unending agonies and miseries.

The physical ‘Oasis’ amidst the desert is symbolic of the ‘Divine Oasis’, denoting :

Divine Effulgence Divine Love Divine Grace Divine Glory,

which exude :

happiness,

joy, compassion, benevolence, kindness, love, and mercy.

All religious scriptures warn us about these vicious mental and emotional ‘fires’, but these warnings fall on our ‘deaf ears’, and we just ignore them to our own detriment and demoralization.

32 —

We, human beings, are so weak and susceptible to the influence of illusive ‘Maya’, that even if we become aware of these vicious mental ‘fires’, we are unable to neutralize or extinguish them with our own intelligence and efforts.

Inspite of :

advanced education, scientific knowledge, modern civilization, preachings of prophets and sages, propagation of various religions, profession of religious concepts,

humanity has not been able to extricate itself from the ‘burning mental desert’ of its own making or to find a safe ‘refuge’.

So, in our agonising predicament, frustration, and frenzy, we search for temporary relief, by resorting to extremes of sensual enjoyments and entertainments, which drive us to the level of brutes.

Transformation of our ‘Egoistic Consciousness’, to the ‘Spiritual Consciousness’, is essential for transition of our life from the ‘burning desert’ to the ‘Divine Oasis’.

Even so, the option or choice between : the ‘burning mental desert’, and the ‘Divine Blissful Oasis’, lies in our own consciousness.

33 —

Every religion has advocated the sublime company of saints or Enlightened Souls, i.e., ‘Sadh Sangat’.

— Only Enlightened Souls can make us aware of our inner ‘fires’. conscious of ‘Divine Oasis’ within, inspire us, guide us, lead us, usher us, into the ‘Spiritual Oasis’.

Therefore, the only hope for the humanity is to turn back and heed and follow the sublime teachings of Prophets and sages, and take refuge in the ‘Divine Oasis’ within.

DIVINE WILL(KHOJI BAUJI JASWANT SINGH).

 I

GOD IS ONE

HIS ATTRIBUTES, such as :—

GRACE,

LIGHT,

POWER,

KINDNESS,

FORGIVENESS,

LOVE,

BLISS

are projected and manifested in the Cosmos at differ- ent planes of Cosmic consciousness, (just as the sun- shine is the projection of the SUN).

ACTIVATION and REFLECTION of the prolification and projection of these Divine Attributes and

Qualities is called

which

DIVINE WILL or DIVINE LAW

pervades, engulfs,

works, and reflects

in, and through every particle of this vast Universe.

The Cosmos is directed and governed by the DIVINE LAW :—

silently, secretly,

subtly, imperceptibly,

punctually, immaculately,

perfectly, and eternally.

The DIVINE WILL or LAW is :—

all-pervading, all-engulfing,

all-intelligence, all-powerful,

omnipresent, and omniscient,

which conditions the existence, and directs the work- ing of every particle of this vast Universe. In other

2

words, Divine WILL is the sublime, secret, invisible, subtle, benevolent, vibrant ACTIVITY of Divine Power, Grace and Love :—

operating, creating

developing, maintaining,

sustaining, harmonising,

integrating, disintegrating, and

regenerating

all LIFE in the Cosmos. This secret, infinite and sub- lime process of Divine WILL has been going on so :—

smoothly, perfectly,

efficiently, and regularly

since eternity, with the : silent,

invisible, imperceptible,

incessant, and eternal

flow of DIVINE LIFE CURRENT, independent of any outside help, guidance or interference !

The DIVINE WILL originates in the DIVINE REALM, and transcends to, and operates in the Universe, guided

3

and governed by the unchanging, inherent, in laid DIVINE LAW.

Each ray inherits and reflects all the qualities of the Sun. Similarly, each ray of projection and activa- tion of the DIVINE WILL reflects all the Divine Quali- ties, such as : —

light, intelligence,

wisdom, kindness,

compassion, benevolence,

abundance, magnanimity,

mercy, love,

bliss, and joy.

There can be no darkness in the presence of light. Similarly, there can be no : —

problem, difficulty,

blunder, ignorance,

sin, unhappiness,

sorrow, misery, or

jealousy

4

in the Light of kind, benevolent and loving DIVINE WILL.

There are two distinct and different planes of Cosmic consciousness : —

1. Divine consciousness, and

2. Egoistic consciousness.

All lives of animal, vegetable, metallic and elemental kingdoms are : —

created, maintained,

sustained, and governed

directly by the Divine Will.

They have been granted little or limited intelli- gence — just enough to struggle for their survival.

They unconsciously live, move, act and have their being in the Divine Will — in complete surrender to the Divine Law, which is inherent and in-laid in their souls.

Thus they are not subject to the ‘KARMIC LAW’ i.e., ‘as you sow-so shall you reap’, as they do not think or act with ego- consciousness. They act under compulsion of and in compliance with their natural instinct, which is inherent and in-laid within their ‘gene’ or seed. They have no ‘free’ will to discriminate or make choice.

To understand and grasp this subtle point, some practical and living illustrations may be helpful.

5

1. When a cat kills a rat, she acts under the compulsion of her instinct, in-laid in her very nature by the Divine Will. She does not act of her own free- will and has unconsciously complied with, and carried out the secret and un-written Divine Will- inherent and in-laid in her soul. She has therefore not committed any ‘sin’, and is not subject to the Karmic Law.

The same secret, silent and un-written principle of the eternal Divine LAW applies to all creatures, in different stages and degrees of their evolution, in the vast Cosmos.

2. In the vegetable kingdom, every plant or tree reflects the silent working of the Divine WILL at dif- ferent stages of its growth, life and destruction, and finally being merged into the original elements of na- ture.

Each seed is in-laid with the ‘Gene’ of its : — variety,

sub-variety, size,

shape, colour,

fragrance, taste,

quality, utility,

potentiality, age, etc.

6

in different stages of life, i.e., seedling, plant, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and fruits, and again seeds.

This unconscious surrender and obedience to the Divine WILL qualifies their souls to the higher stages of evolution.

In fact, the vegetable kingdom has no free will of its own to think or act otherwise.

3. The metallic kingdom, made of gross materials- includes the earth, sand, stones, rocks and all metals.

They have no consciousness of their own, and humbly submit to the vagaries of nature, which works directly under the Divine Law.

Their surrender to the Divine WILL is complete and absolute. They are also governed by the natural law of evolution.

4. The elemental kingdom is subtle and power- ful. These elements work in conjunction with, and inter-act on each other, to activate, and manifest vari- ous phenomena of nature, directly under the Divine WILL.

Thus, all particles of the natural kingdoms work : —

in conjunction with each other, inter-act upon each other, modify each other,

generate energy,

to activate, project, manifest and play

7

the : —

silently, secretly,

unconsciously, and eternally

infinite incessant,

unending, perfect,

meticulous, and regular

DRAMA OF THE DIVINE WILL in the vast Cosmos.

All the natural kingdoms belong to the three dimensional COSMOS, which we know as NATURE.

In fact, the whole COSMOS is an instrument in the Hands of the DIVINE WILL, which works, projects and plays the COSMIC DRAMA in compliance with the DIVINE LAW.

8

II

Now, we come to the most complex, diabolical, incomprehensible and mysterious creature, called ‘MAN’.

MAN was made in the image of God, who pro- vided His son with all the necessities and luxuries of life, in abundance, and created ‘EVE’ as his playmate and consort in the heaven of ‘EDEN’ on earth, to live in, and enjoy the blessings of : —

JOY BLISS,

KINDNESS, and LOVE

of HIS DIVINE FATHER — GOD.

To play a game and make it interesting and enter- taining, two opposite strong teams are essential. Even in democratic institutions, a strong ‘opposition’ is re- quired for efficient and healthy working of democracy.

Similarly, the All-Wise Providence has created an opposite power of ‘Maya’ to : —

1. avoid the boredom of casual routine life,

2. break the monotony of life.

9

3. make life interesting and entertaining,

4. create the sense of competition,

5. instill the ambition for better life,

6. drive the mind for higher achievements,

7. compete in probing into the mysteries of Nature,

8. experiment the vagaries of ‘Maya’ in all its aspects,

9. search for the Ultimate Goal of Life, i.e., Divinity, and

10. finally, to realise the illusion of ‘Maya’ and attain spiritual illumination.

Darkness has no existence. It is an illusive condi- tion created by the absence of light.

Similarly, ‘Maya’ has no existence, except in our illusive consciousness.

‘Maya’ has no power of its own. It derives its power from lack of our faith in the Divinity.

In other words, the power of ‘Maya’ has its roots in our ‘disbelief’ in God.

‘Darkness’ is the cause of a trail of illusions, mis- understandings, sufferings, miseries, which are spon- taneously obliterated when the ‘light’ comes.

Similarly, the illusion of Maya brings with it a trail of baser elements of : —

ego, selfishness,

10

lust, greed,

attachment, jealousy,

hatred, strife,

quarrels, wars,

and what not, to make our life so : —

degenerated, unhappy,

frustrated, vicious, and

miserable.

On the other hand, in the light or sunshine, we are blessed with and enjoy all the attributes and qualities of the Sun.

Similarly, when our soul basks in the Sunshine of Divine Faith and Love of our Beloved Father — God — we partake and enjoy all the Divine blessings of : —

compassion, kindness,

benevolence, tender care,

magnanimity, and above all Love Divine.

It is obvious that in the Divine Scheme of the Cosmic Drama, there are two different, opposite and

11

contradictory aspects of consciousness of Divinity and illusive ‘Maya’.

These states of consciousness represent the ‘Duality’ of the Nature in every aspect of its manifestation :—

light and

good and

virtue and

love and

selflessness and

happiness and

bliss and

life and

cold and

kindness and

health and

angels and

heaven and

darkness

bad

vice

hatred

selfishness

sorrow

misery

death

hot

cruelty

disease

devils

hell.

These opposite elements work and exert against each other to render the universal play : —

interesting, entertaining,

colourful, emotional,

dramatic, impressive,

infectious, educative,

12

corrective, revealing,

emancipating, enlightening, and

illuminating

for the participating souls, and help them in their search for the ultimate goal of salvation and freedom, through their own gruesome and hard experiences.

It should be remembered that ‘Maya’ exists, works and gains strength in the ‘illusion’ of our consciousness.

Therefore, it is again only in the sphere of our ‘consciousness’, that we can ignore, deny and be free, from the dreadful clutches of this devil — ‘Maya’.

The whole Universe is unconsciously working and obeying the Divine WILL on different planes of consciousness, and gradully working up their evolution under the direction of the Divine Law.

But the story of human beings is different and unique.

God has gifted the human mind with profound intelligence and freedom, so that he can intellectually play higher and subtler Cosmic Drama on finer planes of consciousness, and enact and fulfil the sublimer spiritual aspect of the ‘Divine Drama’.

Somehow, we have come under the spell of illusive ‘Maya’ through our own ignorance and past Karmas, and our consciousness has transcended from the

13

Divine Realm to the lower plane of ‘self-consciousness’ or ‘ego’.

In this lower consciousness, we are apt to loose faith in God, and forget and ignore HIM. Gradually, under the magical spell of the illusive Maya, we conveniently refuse to : —

understand, grasp,

follow, or obey

the authority of the Divine WILL, and unconsciously, get ‘out of tune’ with the benevolent flow of Divine WILL.

Consequently, we try to : —

modify, pollute,

dilute, substitute, or

confuse

the Divine WILL with our own egoistic will, and become subject to the Cosmic Karmic Law.

To illustrate this subtle point, let us take the case of the foetus in the womb of Mother.

Since its inception in the womb — till its birth into the world, the process of its :

nursing, nourishment,

sustenance,

14

growth, development, and

delivery

is wonderfully : —

arranged, supervised, and

governed

by the silent, kind and benevolent Divine WILL, in the tender cosy womb of the Mother, under the tender ‘motherly’ care of Divine Law — without any outside: —

Interference, guidence,

help, intelligence,

scheming, or advice.

This is one of the concrete, practical, wonderful and ‘awe-striking’ miracle of : —

Divine Intelligence, Divine Wisdom,

Divine Benevolence, Divine Love, and

Divine GRACE

After birth, the same tender care and Love of Divine WILL works through the ‘Mother’ — to bring up the innocent baby.

15

As the intelligence of the baby is developed, it recognises its parents and surroundings, and is influenced by the prevailing environment and surrounding company.

Thus, his innocence is gradually overpowered and replaced by his own ‘self consciousness’, and he starts exhibiting his ‘ego’ through ‘I’, ME and ‘MINE’.

As the child grows up and his intelligence is developed, he asserts his ‘ego’ everywhere, and his arrogance is manifested in all aspects of his life.

In proportion to the development of his ‘Egoistic Consciousness’, he looses belief and faith in Divinity, and becomes arrogant, profane, and aggressive, thereby becoming a complete slave of the illusive ‘Maya’, with the trail of all its vices, and resultant sufferings.

Thus, he deprives himself of all the Divine Blessings of :—

compassion, kindness,

tender care, benevolence,

magnanimity, and LOVE

which he unconsciously enjoyed during his sojourn in and out of the womb.

He forgets that all these Divine Blessings are his own ‘Divine Heritage’ — and are inherent and in- laid in his sublime consciousness, if only he cares,

16

to realize his Divine Heritage and turn back to his Divine Kingdom !

On the other hand, in our ‘Egoistic Consciousness’, our souls are ‘cut off’, from the benevolent flow of Divine Blessings, and are left to ‘fend for ourselves’, and thereby suffer the consequences of our own thoughts and deeds, in accordance with the cosmic law of Karma, ‘as you sow — so shall you reap’.

It is ironical to think that the ‘Divine Prince’, i.e., human soul has to suffer all the unhappiness and miseries of the materialistic world, just because he failed to : —

remember, understand,

realise, grasp,

believe in, and claim

his Heritage of Divine Kingdom of Love and GRACE. This Divine Kingdom of Love and Grace is already

‘in-laid’ in every soul, and can be realised and enjoyed by : —

inheritance, without claiming,

without earning,

just for the taking,

by His Grace,

where supreme, benevolent, kind, magnanimous, loving

17

‘Divine WILL’ prevails and works silently—engulfing the whole Universe.

It is unfortunate that the human being, created in the image of God, should be so indoctrinated and illusioned by the magic — spell of the glittering ‘Maya’, as to forget, ignore and deny his Divine Heritage, and deprive himself of the benevolent, loving care and blessings of the Divine WILL !

Thus he becomes a prodigal son.

It is all the more ironical and amusing that, inspite of : —

keen intelligence, high education,

scientific research, numerous religions,

profound philosophies, glut of scriptures,

innumerable doctrines,

surfeit of rituals and rites, and

countless religious teachers,

we, human beings, have not been able to : —

discern, understand,

comprehend, realise,

grasp, recognise,

identify,

18

neutralise, expose, and

curb

the influence and spell of false ‘egoistic illusion’ !

In fact, the ‘Maya’ has made use of our intelligence and emotions to run its own empire, to our detriment and misery.

To differentiate and clarify the working of the Divine WILL in various aspects of Nature, let us take the illustration of Rose.

From : 1.

2.

3.

the seedling, to the plant.

the budding, to the full-blooming Rose,

final withering and annihilation,

a golden thread of Divine ‘Life-current’ flows into every fibre of its existence, to : —

develop, nourish, and

sustain

the plant, and to bestow the Rose with : —

fragrance, colouring,

beauty, tenderness,

exquisiteness, and charm

under the invisible and secret supervision and blessings of the benevolent Divine WILL.

19

III

Heat, light and energy etc. are attributes of the sun-shine.

Similarly,

Divine intelligence, Divine Wisdom,

Divine Benevolence, Divine WILL,

Divine Law,

Divine GRACE, etc.

are attributes of the Divine LIFE-CURRENT, called ‘WORD’, ‘LOGOS’ or ‘NAM’.

The sublime process of Divine WILL is so perfect, complete and meticulous that no outside interference or guidance is needed.

None of the creatures (except human beings) have enough intelligence and freedom to interfere in the working process of the cosmos, which is directly governed by the Divine Law.

Human being is made in the image of God — and is bestowed with profound intelligence and freedom

20

of thoughts and deeds. This Divine Gift of intelligence and freedom was granted to the man, so that he could rediscover his Divine-SELF and his Divine Heritage, with the help and guidance of Awakened and illuminated Souls.

But unfortunately, man has been mis-using and abusing these gifts of intelligence and freedom in pursuit of baser elements of ‘Maya’, and has become slave of the glittering magic of illusive ‘Maya’ — to his own detriment, and consequent life-long sufferings of unhappiness and misery.

God has bestowed so many precious Gifts on ‘MAN’ — such as : —

It is their

intelligence, energy,

power,

freedom, etc. etc.

CORRECT USE or MIS-USE

that makes or mars the life of man, and brings happiness or misery into the world.

If these Divine Gifts are used ‘in-conjunction’, and ‘in-tune’ with the Divine WILL, we are spontaneously blessed with all the Divine virtues, such as : —

kindness, compassion,

21

peace, faith,

devotion, love,

bliss, and joy.

When we manifest and reflect these Divine virtues in our lives, the environment around us is transformed, and we live in, and enjoy : —

a better, holier,

freer, joyful,

blissful, loving,

graceful, real, and

worthy

sublime world in the kingdom of God.

On the other hand when we forget or disown our Divine Heritage, we are influenced by the glittering and ilusive spell of ‘Maya’, and become slaves of our senses, with a long trail of ‘satanic’ vices, such as : —

selfishness, pride,

arrogance, jealousy,

hatred,

22

anger, lust,

greed, strife,

violence

and what not, making our own life, and the world around us : —

frustrated, unhappy,

discontented, sorrowful,

miserable, horrible, and

hellish !

The crucial point for the man is the correct use of God's Gift of ‘free choice’, for which we have to develop a sense of :

understanding, comprehension, identification,

insight, and discrimination.

between : —

1. Materialistic world of illusive ‘Maya’ based

on ‘ego’ — consciousness,

AND

2. ‘Divine Kingdom’ — where Divine WILL and Divine LAW prevail.

23

In this connection, it would be interesting and instructive to study the following comparative chart :

Materialistic World

Jealousy

Greed

Borrowed power Fleeting pleasure Unhappiness Malice

‘Thou’ and ‘Thine’ Divine Grace

Heaven

It is all a matter of change or transformation of our consciousness — from — egoistic conception, to — benevolent, kind, loving Divine Consciousness.

Even so, our choice is conditioned and inhibited by the instinct of our sub-conscious mind, and also

24

prevailing environment and the company we keep with.

Deep rooted instinct or propensities cannot be changed overnight, but it is possible to change ‘surroundings’ and ‘company’, if we sincerely desire and opt for a better and sublimer life of Divine Consciousness.

Influence of our contact with and company of the surrounding world plays a great role in changing and shaping our thoughts, beliefs or consciousness, which form the basis of our good or bad lives. In other words, the ‘company’ we keep can make or mar the fate and destiny of our lives.

This illusion or misconception of our false ego is engendered in our mental consciousness through baneful ‘company’ of un-Godly elements of ‘Maya’.

Therefore, it is obvious that a sublimer ‘company’ or ‘sadh sangat’ is necessary to change or transform our egoistic consciousness.

If cultivated and powerful mind can influence the ordinary mind so deeply on the mental plane, Illuminated and Enlightened Souls can also awaken, inspire and ignite the aspiring souls, and usher them into the subtle intuitional plane of Divine Consciousness.

Hence it is beyond the grasp of intellectual understanding. It can only be realised by inner experience of Divine Attributes-such as JOY, BLISS and LOVE — in the depth of our souls.

25

The inner experience of the Soul is called ‘Intuition’ or ‘Divine Consciousness’.

This ‘INTUITION’ is the only means of contact or ‘communion’ between Man and God.

It is through ‘intuition’ that humanity can realise Divinity and experience all the Divine attributes of :

Divine WILL, Divine LAW,

Divine JOY,

Divine COMPASSION,

Divine BENEVOLENCE, Divine LOVE, and

Divine GRACE.

In other words, ‘Intuition’ is the means of TRANSITION.

FROM: intellectualknowledgeofouterexperience of mind,

TO: inner experience of the SOUL, i.e., consciousness of Divinity.

This transition or transformation of consciousness can be attained by turning our thoughts and minds inwards — by concentration and meditation with intense devotion.

In this difficult, subtle and sublime process of transformation of mind to the exalted state of Divine Consciousness,

contact, company,

26

help, guidance,

inspiration, and blessings

of Enlightened Souls — is imperative and essential. Unless and until our ‘Intuition’ or Divine

Consciousness is awakened and developed, all our thoughts, motivation and actions are liable to be : —

mis-guided, mis-directed,

mis-conceived, wrong, and even

baneful,

leading us to the un-ending trail of sufferings, making our lives miserable here and hereafter !

27

IV

There is another pertinent point about the Divine WILL — which is most misunderstood, misconceived and misquoted.

To make this fine and sublime point more comprehensive, the example of electricity and its gadgets may be illustrative.

Electricity is generated in a Power House and transmitted and distributed through different kinds of gadgets. The same electricity enlightens bulbs of different colours, shapes, sizes and wattage. We know that electricity is the life and light of the bulb, and the filament is only an instrument for the manifestation of the invisible current, and the outer ‘bulb’ is only a glass cover.

It would sound so absurd on the part of the bulb to claim and boast that it is the master or giver of the light! That would be tantamount to false and gross illusion of ego on the part of the bulb !

Precisely, the Divine Life Current working through us, is the gift of God, and we are all different instruments for manifestation and working of His ‘Cosmic Drama’ and for the projection of His Divine WILL.

28

Although we human beings have been gifted with freedom of thought and action, yet we are under the overall canopy of His Divine WILL and Grace.

So long as we think and act with the sense of ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’, we are living in ego-consciousness, and become subject to the ‘Karmic Law.’

It is a blasphemy to project our egoistic thoughts and actions as ‘God's Will’ and try to absolve ourselves of our egoistic omissions and sins !

All our thoughts and actions, motivated and projected with the expressions of ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’ belong, to and should be relegated to the ‘egoistic plane’ of the materialistic world.

In fact, such egoistic thoughts and actions are : —

opposite, contrary,

‘out-of-tune’, antithesis,

disobedience, ignorance,

misconception and miscarriage

of the ‘Divine Will’, and carry with them the seeds of ‘Karmic Law’, with consequent sufferings and degeneration of humanity.

When our intuition or Divine consciousness is awakened with : —

concentration, meditation,

29

devotion, inspiration,

sadh-sangat, and Grace of the Guru,

our ignorance and illusion about : —

‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’, egoistic conception,

‘Maya’,

materialistic world, and

Karmas

is removed and eliminated.

Our soul is then enlightened and reborn in the

‘Divine Consciousness’.

Thus, our soul comes face-to-face with Divinity, and we enjoy inner experience of : —

Divine Presence, Divine Will,

Divine Bliss,

Divine Love, and

Divine Grace.

In this exalted state of Divine Consciousness, we realise that we are only instruments of His Divine Will, and all our thoughts and actions are : —

motivated, oriented,

coloured, projected,

30

guided, directed,

supervised, and governed

by the Infinite ‘Divine Law’ — Just as in the case of all other creatures of the Cosmos; and thereby we become free from the consequences of our thoughts and deeds.

Thus we become Free Children of God and spontaneously acquire and enjoy our Herigate of : —

Divine Presence, Divine Peace,

Divine Kindness, Divine Benevolence,

Divine Magnificence, Divine Grace, and

Divine Glory.

It must be clearly understood that no amout of intellectual : —

understanding, learning,

research, discussions,

excursions, theorizing,

philosophizing

31

or profession of : —

dogmatic religions, rites and rituals,

austerities, offerings,

dedication, renunciation, and

sacrifices

can be of any avail in the realization of ‘Divine Consciousness’ of the Glory of God, and other Divine Attributes of the Kingdom of God.

Our intelligence can, at best, take us to the outer- courtyard of the Divine Realm, but not beyond that.

The Glory of Divinity is so : —

awe-striking, infatuating,

bewitching, intoxicating, and

enchanting,

that human intellectual senses get stunned and lost in the bliss and joy of the effulgent and all-engulfing Grace and Love of the Divine Presence !

32

V

The difference between other creatures of the Universe and ‘Man’ is that :

1. Man is made in the image of God.

2. Man has been bestowed with higher intelligence

and finer perception.

3. Man has been granted freedom of thought

and action.

4. But he has misused this freedom for his selfish aggrandizement.

5. Man

6. Man

7. Man

is assigned to play finer and sublimer part in the Universal Drama.

being self-centred, is apt to forget and deny his Father, ‘God’.

being vain and whimsical, is more amenable to the influence of ‘Maya’.

8. Man being Ego-centric, is prone to assert his ‘ego’ through ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’.

9. Man consciously forgets or willfully neglects his higher Divine Assignment.

33

10.Man thinks and acts with his ‘Ego Consciousness’.

11. Man is subject to the Cosmic ‘Law of Karma’, and thereby suffers the consequences of his egoistic deeds.

12. Thereby, Man loses the last and the best chance of his spiritual evolution and emancipation.

13. Man deprives himself of the Divine Heritage of Kingdom of God.

14. Man denies himself his right of partaking and enjoying the Divine Gifts of Joy.

15. Man pertinently ignores the dictates of inner voice of his soul.

16. Man has the audacity to play ‘dual game’ of serving two masters, i.e., God and Demon! in that he is sincere and honest to none !

17. Man's profession of religion is superfluous and showy, and he has no intention or will to follow the instructions of religious scriptures and teachers.

18. Man is playing ruse with his own soul and Divinity !

19. Under the magical spell of ‘Maya’, Man has become so profane, whimsical, degenerated, corrupt, frustrated, confused

34

and lost in the quagmire of materialistic world, that he is unable to understand and discriminate between :

right and wrong, good and bad, virtue and vice, God and Maya Heaven and Hell.

20. Manissooccupiedandengrossedinthepursuit of baser elements of Maya that he has no time or will to think and aspire for higher human qualities.

21. The mind of Man is so frittered and scattered in the self-created exigencies of materialistic world that it is impossible to concentrate his mind on higher and sublimer thoughts.

22. By deliberately ignoring and forgeting the higher and finer Cosmic assignment allotted to him, man interrupts the smooth flow of the Divine Will and obstructs the Cosmic Programme.

23. Other creatures of the Universe just cannot ignore or disobey the dictates of their inner instincts. Therefore, they are naturally and unconsciously working “in-tune” with the Divine Will; thus, they work for upward evolution of their souls.

35

24. Being sincere and honest to their “inner dictates”, they are saved from the clutches and slavery of the Demon of ‘Maya’ and the implication of Karmic Law.

25. Since their thoughts and deeds are governed by the Divine Will — reflected in their ‘instincts’, they are free from all baser elements of Egoistic Consciousness and consequent sufferings and miseries, from which the higher species of man suffer.

26. Other creatures are unconsciously carrying on their cosmic assignments, and are working for the fulfilment of the ‘Cosmic programme’.

27. All creatures (except man) have one Universal Common Religion of total surrender and allegiance to their ‘inner instinct’, which they follow unconsciously. This universal religion is ‘inherent and in-laid’ in each species of creation, and requires no outside preaching.

In contrast, mankind professes various religions, which are imposed from outside and conflict in their dogmas, beliefs, rituals and rites.

36

VI

The predominant attribute of the Sun is heat.

Similarly, God's attributes are innumerable, amongst which Providential Love runs through all other Divine Qualities of : —

attraction, light,

intelligence, energy,

power, etc.

This attraction or Divine Love : —

permeates, projects,

manifests, and reflects

in every aspect of the Cosmos.

There is a Universal Law of ‘Like attracts like’.

This is reflected and projected in the Cosmos as : — attraction,

affection, devotion, and

love

37

This is illustrated in various processes of manifestation and projection of the Cosmos.

For example, water of ocean evaporates with the heat of the Sun. These vapours change into various forms of clouds, rain, snow, rivulets, streams and rivers and finally merge into its original source of Ocean.

The same attraction or ‘Pull’ is reflected in the lives of billions of stars and planets in the ‘Space’, which move and revolve around one another at precise speed and with meticulous punctuality.

This universal attraction or ‘pull’ engulfs, works, governs and conditions the whole wonderful process of Cosmic Drama, just as ‘Motherly’ love reflects in all her physical, mental and emotional activities.

All souls are projection and constituent of Divinity. Hence under the Universal Law of ‘Like attracts like’, all souls have natural ‘pull’ towards each other at the spiritual plane, and also towards their ‘Mother-soul’i.e., God.

This inherent and ‘in-laid’ attraction or ‘pull’ of the souls is called ‘Divine Love’, which permeates, engulfs and conditions all Divine Activities of :

Divine Will, Divine Law,

Divine Kindness, Divine Benevolence,

Divine Providence, Divine Magnificence,

38

Divine Bliss, and Divine Mercy.

As we fly into the sky, the pull of gravity of the earth is weakened and diminished.

When we enter into the gravity of another planet, the pull of that planet is increased.

The ‘pull’ of the Magnet is conditioned by the rust covering the iron. The more the iron is rusted, the lesser the ‘pull’. This means that the rusty iron is not receptive to the ‘Magnetic-pull’.

Similarly, when our faith and devotion towards Divinity is weakened and diminished by the rust of egoistic consciousness, the pull of ‘Divine Love’ towards us, is proportionately weakened and diminished. Consequently, we become more amenable to the Gravity of ‘Maya’. Thereby, we become subject to the ‘Karmic Law’, and suffer all the consequences of our thoughts and deeds. In addition, we also deprive ourselves of the Divine Love, Blessings and Grace of Realm.

It must be remembered that there are two different and distinct planes of the Cosmos : —

1. Egoistic plane of ‘Maya’.

2. Spiritual plane of ‘Divinity’.

In our ignorance and with our limited intelligence, we often : —

misunderstand, misinterpret,

39

misconceive, and confuse

the working of these planes.

The subtle process of change or transition of our ‘awareness’ or ‘consciousness’ is wrought in our mental and spiritual planes.

In other words, this ‘transition’ takes place : —

From : — The intellectual plane of ‘egoistic consciousness’,

To : — The ‘Intuitional Consciousness’ of Divinity.

‘Egoistic’ awareness is the outer experience of the mind on the intellectual and emotional planes of ‘Maya’.

‘Intuitional Consciousness’ is the inner experience of the soul on the spiritual plane of Divinity.

We are apt to misunderstand and confuse our ‘human- will’ with ‘Divine Will’ Therefore, it is essential that this ‘confusion’ should be clarified and removed, to avoid wrong conception and mis-interpretation of our ‘own will’.

All thoughts, desires, actions and emotions, which reflect our selfish egoistic consciousness, are subject to the ‘Karmic Law’.

‘Maya’ and its ‘egoistic’ illusion is also the projection and creation of God-to run and govern the ‘dual’ cosmic Drama and derives its powers from the Divine realm.

40

Hence the egoistic illusion of ‘Maya’ works under the overall canopy of Divine Will, but God does not intervene in the mundane affairs of man. Man has been bestowed with ‘freedom’ of thought and action, and normally God does not interfere in this ‘freedom’, until and unless His Help and Mercy is invoked and sought.

Egoistic man is ‘left to fend for himself’ in the dual cosmic world, under the Universal ‘Law of Karma’, i.e., ‘As you sow, so shall you reap’.

When a soul is awakened from the illusive ‘world- consciousness’, it is transformed into Intuitional ‘Divine- Consciousness’. His own will is blended and merged into the Divine Will. All his thoughts, desires, actions and emotions etc., reflect the Divine Will and Divine Law. He then acts, moves and has his being in the spiritual plane and lives the Presence of Divine Grace and Glory.

It is a pleasure to work in harmony with the sweet Divine Will. He simply cannot use his own Will !

To make this point more comprehensive, following illustrations may be helpful.

When water of a rivulet joins a river and merges into it, it starts running in conjunction and ‘in tune’ with the stronger flow of the river, and acquires the full force of the ‘River-flow’.

On the other hand, when some amount of water is separated from, and gets out-of tune with the mainstream,

41

it looses the force and direction of the mainstream.

Similarly, when our own egoistic will is conjoined and merged into the Divine Will and works ‘in- conjunction’ and ‘in-tune’ with the flow of Divine Will, we spontaneously acquire all the powers and qualities of Divinity.

On the other hand, when our mind is illusioned by egoistic consciousness, and our faith and devotion for Divinity is weakened or diminished, the flow of our ‘lifecurrent’ gets ‘out-of-tune’ with the Divine Will. Thereby, we deprive ourselves of our spiritual Heritage of Divine Qualities, and become slaves of ‘Maya’.

42

VII

Having studied the two dual facets of the Cosmic Life, it is for us, the human beings, to take advantage of God — given freedom of thought and action, and to discriminate and choose for ourselves between : —

1. baser egoistic life of ‘Maya’ with its long trail of sufferings and miseries,

AND

2. Higher Spiritual Life with Divine Gifts of kindness, joy, bliss, Love and Grace.

Both aspects of life are depicted in the following table for ready reference :

For this change or transformation : — From : Egoistic Consciousness, To : Spiritual Consciousness,

no change of place, religion, country or occupation is involved.

It is only a matter of change : —

44

As stated earlier, only three things are essential for this crucial transformation :

1.

2.

3.

But the

1.

2.

3.

Company of Awakened and illuminated Souls Meditation

Guru's Grace.

crux of the whole matter is :

Aspiration

Priority

Resolution

on our part for this ‘Spiritual transformation’.

With the exception of human beings, all other

countless creatures live and act under the impulsion and compulsion of their individual intrinsic instincts. The instincts are their natural inherent ‘religions’, which they unconsciously obey, and follow sincerely and honestly. They need no outside religion, nor dogmas and philosophies ! They simply cannot think or act otherwise. Therefore, these creatures are unconsciously, but surely working for the upward evolution or emancipation of their souls.

The plight of the human soul is tragic and pitiable. Having misconceived and abused the Divine Gift of Freedom of thought and action, human being has become:

indifferent, doubtful,

ignorant,

45

forgetful, and unconscious

of his own Divine Heritage, and has been : — entertaining,

cultivating, feeding,

nourishing, developing,

sustaining, projecting,

glorifying, magnifying, and

deifying

of his false ‘Ego’, through and ‘Mine’ in countless past

This false sense of

absorbed into our very being, and we have become : —

“EGO PERSONIFIED INDIVIDUALS” !

This false conception of ‘ego’ has become such :

strong, deep,

unshakable, and uncompromising

faith and conviction with us—that we have been: —

justifying, glorifying,

the idea and conception the expression of ‘I’, ‘Me’ lives!

‘ego’ has permeated and

46

magnifying, advertising,

institutionalising, legalising and

deifying

it in our daily life — to unlimited horizons of intellectual, emotional and physical planes !

Our egoistic consciousness has :

percolated, permeated,

absorbed, and saturated

into the very fibres of our lives, and has become our ‘second nature’ : so much so, that we have become: —

to : —

indifferent, disinterested,

reluctant or averse

think, listen,

entertain, or believe

in anything inconsistent to our ingrained and established egoistic conception of ‘I’ and ‘Me’.

47

This egoistic sense has even : —

infiltrated, permeated,

degenerated, and has been misinterpreted,

in the conception and profession of so-called Religions — so as to suit our own materialistic designs and conveniences; thereby making the practice of Religion : —

superfluous, ritualistic, showy,

self-deceiving, hypocritical and

farce !

With such an illusive sense of ‘egoistic consciousness’, prevailing and dominating in every fibre of human life, we — knowingly or unknowingly — live DUAL or TRIPLE facets of life.

And the dilemma becomes all the more painful and tragic, when we approach religion with such dual hypocritical mind.

Thus, we have degenerated religion into mockery and blasphemy.

In such a degenerated environment of egoistic consciousness, it is RARE to find a sincere soul,

48

aspiring for Divinity, with :

interest, faith,

zeal,

resolution, and

priority of choice.

Our present state of mental and spiritual condition is the cumulative result of our past thoughts and karmas, spread over innumerable former lives — plus those of present life.

Therefore, it is imperative that long periods-covering many lives-may be necessary to : —

1. neutralise the pernicious effect of our past karmas,

2. modify, change and transform our consciousness, and

3. create and develop : —

keen interest, aspiration,

strong resolution, devotion,

faith, and priority

for the ‘Spiritual Science’ of the SOUL.

This task of transformation of consciousness become

all the more arduous, tedious and slow in the depraved atmosphere prevailing in the present degenerated materialistic world.

49

It is really an uphill task to face and work against the vicious circle of established beliefs and convictions concerning our social and religious obligations.

Gurus, Avtars and illuminated Souls have been warning the people against this exploitation of hypocritic religions and spiritualism.

But our ‘egoistic consciousness’ is so deep, insidious and pernicious — that we are easily influenced and allured by the glittering ‘Maya’, and are liable to slip back again and again, into the dreadful materialistic quagmire.

All scriptures have been extolling that the simple way to change and transform our materialistic mentality to ‘Divine Consciousness’ is : —

1. Sublime company of illuminated Souls, i.e., Sadh-Sangat.

2. Meditation,

3. Unselfish Service.

4. Guru's Grace.

But the final choice lies with us, whether : —

1. We are satisfied and contented with our present materialistic life — with all its sorrows, sufferings and miseries,

OR

2. We desire to change for a better, sublimer, joyful, blissful, Divine Life, under the kind, benevolent and loving Divine WILL.

50

In spite of all the exhortations of religious and spiritual teachers and their innumerable writings, we consciously or unconsciously, have been habitually : —

indifferent, uninterested,

forgetful, unconcerned, and

ignorant

of these sublime teachings, to our own detriment.

In a nutshell : —

is the : —

DIVINE WILL

activation, execution,

of the DIVINE LAW.

If we think, act and live : —

expression, projection,

prolification, fulfilment, and

in conjunction, and

in tune

51

culmination

with the Divine WILL, we are blessed with all the Divine attributes of

joy, bliss,

kindness, benevolence,

mercy, love,

Grace, etc.

In addition, we are saved from the baneful clutches of Maya — with all its long trail of : —

egoistic illusion, materialistic conception,

unhappiness, sorrow,

worries, sufferings,

miseries, and Karmic Law

in this life as well as the life hereafter.

In the obedience of Divine WILL, we also work our assigned part in the Cosmic Drama — towards the overall fulfilment of the Divine LAW — just as, all other creatures do unconsciously.

The expression and manifestation of Divine WILL in the Cosmos is also called ‘NATURE’.

All creatures of Nature possess limited intelligence and freedom-just enough to struggle for their survival but the basic elements of their lives are governed by their in-laid instincts, which reflect the Divine WILL.

But human being is blessed with profound intelligence and freedom. Hence only human beings are involved in these extremes.

Amongst these extremes- ‘ego consciousness’ is the most important and basic element, around which man's life revolves.

Man is so obsessed with and possessed by the sense of his ‘ego’ that he is unable to think or act beyond his egoistic consciousness of ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’.

In other words, he is under the spell of egoistic ‘ghost’ — which will not allow him to think or act otherwise !

This ‘egoistic consciousness’ cannot just be ignored, denied or eliminated by our wishful thinking — as, such fanciful ideas and hypothetic philosophies carry within themselves the seeds of egoistic consciousness.

Therefore the easiest way for this transformation is to divert or substitute our thoughts, to sublimer consciousness of ‘God-head’ or ‘NAM’ or ‘SHABAD’.

In this important and sublime process of transformation, guidance and company of Illuminated and Enlightened souls is very helpful and essential.

The expression and execution of the DIVINE WILL in the Cosmos works in ineffable form of ‘Divine Music’.

This ‘Celestial Music’ is : —

secret, sacred,

sweet, melodious,

harmonious, subtle,

exquisite, vibrating,

thrilling, heart-rending,

charming, infatuating,

intoxicating, and ecstatic

The symphony of this Celestial Music is being played through the core of every particle of the Cosmos : —

Continuously, without break, eternally,

iii

without instruments, without concert, and without orchestra,

But human ‘ears’ cannot hear,

sense, realise, and

enjoy

this Celestial Music, because it is beyond the grasp of human :

intelligence, understanding,

rationale learning,

philosophy, and hypothesis.

The Divine symphony can only be : —

heard,

experienced, and

enjoyed

by our souls through :

1. Meditation.

2. Third EAR or ‘Divine intuition’.

3. Guru's Grace.

When mind is concentrated and turned inwards by meditation, it is ushered into the Divine Realm by the Grace of Guru, and ‘Intuitional consciousness is awakened and developed’.

iv

Thus the Third Intuitional EAR is awakened to hear, experience and enjoy the sweet melodious Divine symphony within the soul.

The soul is so charmed and exhilarated with every

exquisite note, thrilling tune and

Celestial song

of the Divine symphony ryhthem that it is exalted and infatuated to dance to the tune of the Divine Music.

In this infatuating and ecstatic state of consciousness, mind is so overwhelmed and infatuated by sweet, blissful Divine symphony-that it is unable to think or act with his own individual will, and is spontaneously TUNED to the DIVINE WILL, and works in conjunction with the DIVINE LAW.

Even a faint ‘intuitional experience’ of the celestial Music can so charm and infatuate the soul, that the mind is ushered at once into the Divine Realm and is transmuted into an ‘instrument’ of the Eternal Divine Music.

In other words, our mind must be : —

influenced, inspired,

re-oriented, grafted,

exalted, infatuated,

intoxicated, and magnetized

v

by the Divine Music to become an ‘instrument’ of the Divine symphony and to act in-tune with the Divine WILL.

When our soul is awakened and illuminated with the Divine NAM, it

percolates, permeates and

transcends

our ‘very being’ and we are filled with Divine Love and Bliss.

Then-we

breath in, live in,

move in,

work with, and

have our being

in Divine Consciousness, and get infatuated and

intoxicated with Divine BLISS and LOVE.

The man is then transmuted and transformed into an

EMBODIMENT OF DIVINITY.

Like the fragrance emanating from flower, our soul spontaneously emanates and reflects the Divine attributes of joy, peace, Bliss and Love.

The spiritual LIFE of such a blessed soul constitutes and reflects : —

1. Intuitional experience of Divine ‘Life Current’ i.e., NAM.

2. Enjoying vibrating thrill of effortless, spontaneous inner Meditation.

vi

3. Ecstasy in the Divine BLISS OF NAM.

4. Exhilaration of the exquisite sweet melodious

symphony of Eternal Divine Music.

5. Intoxication in the rapturous bliss of captivating Divine LOVE.

6. Infatuation of ravishing and bewitching Divine BEAUTY.

7. Breathing, moving, living and having our being, in the Divine GRACE.

8. Unconsciously emanating the fragrance of God's GRACE.

9. Becoming an ‘instrument’ for the projection, manifestation and working of Divine WILL.

10. Basking in the cosy warmth of Divine Sunshine of NAM.

11. Living with every breath — the True, Vibrating, Thrilling, Eternal, Universal LIVING Religion.

12. Un-knowingly reflecting and glorifying the infinite Grace and Greatness of the LORD.

MAN & WOMEN (Prof. Puran Singh).

MAN AND WOMAN thro' the eyes of the woman I love it is that I see; I am a shipwrecked mariner, and they are my boats to ferry me across the sea of loneliness. * * * The coming of woman brings with it the perfume of the presence of God. * * * As a sword meets its scabbard, my glance meets the glance of the woman I love. * * * Our eyes send messages which neither of us can interpret without the other. * * * Our hearts melt into a white felicity by the fire of our looks. In this ecstasy we murmur in broken, joy-inspired language the stories of the past and the stories of the future. * * * The memory of all our past lives is kindled in us by the two burning lamps of her eyes. * * * Our days are the flower-showers of smiles at each other, and our nights the meteoric gleams of starry dreams. * * * In this reverie of our love time is like a gurgling hill-torrent that goes rushing past us; and we, seated on its green edge, dip our feet in its current and talk and laugh together. * * * We grow in each other and to each other. I see the crown of her head touching the very * * * sky, so tall she grows before my admiring gaze! She wears with as simple an ease the light-blue shawl of heavens glittering with diamonds as if she took it out of her own wardrobe. * * * How can I describe one whom I love so blindly? My eyes see no fault in that absolutely divine workmanship. * * * Her fragrant form pervades both my body and soul, and fills the earths and heavens for me. * * * She is the wife—her head bent down with the weight of her full blossom, like the flower with its face bent down along its stalk in bash-fulness of its own beauty. * * * We seek in each other the selflessness and forgiveness, without limit, of the mother and the child. * * * We shut our eyes and see each other at great distances. I see her seated in one corner of the sky playing like a young girl with the white pebbles. Then from behind I go and blindfold her with the palms of my hands, and disturb her pebble-playing. When she opens her eyes we find we have just met for the first time. * * * Wonderful distances realised simply by shutting our eyes give us new glimpses of one another which the blind walls of nearness shut off. * * * Our quivering lips keep the red fire ever aflame, in which we cast continuously our complaints of each other. * * * We are as breath and body that interchange places continuously; at times I am breath and she is body, at others she is breath and I am body. * * * Proudly I garland her with flowers and pearls, and think much of it, and she conceals one love-wreath timidly in her soul for me, and thinks little about it. As I enter her chamber there is the infinite fragrance of that silent welcome with the garland of her arms round me. * * * She is a holy shrine to me where I offer myself. * * * She is my palace in a lowly little hut. As I look at her seated by me on the bare floor, I feel I am the owner of kingdoms that few have seen. * * * She is the lamp of my dark night by which I see the stars of Heaven. * * * She is the rose that bursts open and blossoms on its own twig and on its own root in the Infinite. I never think of plucking it to adorn my turban, as the whole of her, fed by the life-juices of the Infinite, is the feast of my soul. * * * We close our eyes in the joy of each other, and meet in pure beauty. * * * She is my vision of the Infinite that for ever thrills me with its glowing colors of life. * * * Man and woman are not red ripe enough for love like ours till, they both have drunk of the cup of wine, from the hands of the same Cupbearer; and the back door to the Paradise of infinite peace, within is left ajar for both of them by the Beautiful One with Her silver footprints shining on the path!
